Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina Holds 2008 Teen Pregnancy Prevention Conference
"Framing the Debate: Putting Teen Pregnancy into Perspective"
GREENSBORO, NC - May 15-16, 2008 - The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina is holding its annual joint conference with the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services -Division of Public Health in Greensboro at the Koury Convention Center from May 15-16.  This event promotes new practices and research in teen pregnancy prevention and serves as a clearinghouse of ideas and innovation.  The keynote speaker is Michael Resnick, PhD; Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health; Gisela and E. Paul Konopka Chair in Adolescent Health and Development at the University of Minnesota.  Plenary Speakers include Glynis Shea, Communications Coordinator for the Konopka Institute at the University of Minnesota and Adrian Sundiata, Co-CEO of Joe Black and Associates; Community Outreach Coordinator for the Mecklenburg County Health Department.

Every 28 minutes a teen becomes pregnant in North Carolina.  Teen pregnancy costs the state an estimated $312 million each year.  27% of high school dropouts list becoming a parent as the reason they dropped out. Despite these startling statistics teen pregnancy remains a silent epidemic.  Come see what is being done to curb this problem.  The media is invited and welcome to this event, which will be held from 9 am till 7 pm on Thursday and from 9 am till 2 pm on Friday.
