        January 2012

From the desk of Jocelyn Lamont

2012 has arrived.   On behalf of all of us at Candlelighters, best wishes to you and yours' for a Happy New Year.

I am excited about things to come in 2012 .... To start with, I am looking forward to meeting many of you on Tuesday mornings at CHEO. Tamsin and I will be around MDU on Tuesday mornings starting January 17, 2012 and look forward to seeing you there; getting some feedback about our programs and looking at other ways you think Candlelighters can provide support to you and your families. So please, introduce yourselves to us!

My thanks to each of the families for complying with our request that you stop bringing the air mattresses provided by Candlelighters back and forth to the hospital. Let me asure you that we are working with CHEO to address how we can replace that particular air mattress, in addition to addressing the removal of the fridge and microwave from the Sens Den. Please know that your concerns have been heard, I so appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you've been impacted by these changes, and also know that we are taking every step and making every effort to find an appropriate solution! I will also update you on any progress that is made.

A reminder that the Bursary applications are available on our website.Candlelighters

I am delighted to announce that Carlson Wagonlit is the new sponsor for this program, and we are so thankful that we can continue to award a bursary each year in 2012, 2013 and 2014 thanks to their generosity.

They are a great bunch those folks from Carlson Wagonlit ... you may have met some of them yourselves at the Christmas Party, this past December 21. Sherry Saunders was amazing in rounding up 14 volunteers who were an integral part of this year's success, and securing the goodies in the little gift bags. Check out the pix on Candlelighters' Facebook page! Thank you Sherry and everyone at Carlson Wagonlit.

Santa, Mrs. Claus and the Phillips at the Christmas Party

A huge thank you goes out to Erin Phillips and her hubby Chris, for all their contributions in 2011, among them, hosting the Christmas Party! It is our tremendous good fortune to have the support of the Phillips'. I wonder if Chris ever gets finger cramps from signing all those autographs.... Thanks Chris and best of luck in the remainder of the season ... GO SENS GO!

Speaking of Erin and Chris, I want to let you all know that Candlelighters continues to be a recipient charity of the good works of the Ottawa Senators Foundation and the 24hr Tremblant event, and extend a HUGE thank you to Erin, Chris, Danielle and her team at the Sens Foundation, Lianne Laing and Candlelighters' Ambassador Family for the weekend - The MacIntosh Family. Erin had Isla and Gwynn on the slopes Friday afternoon, giving them some ski lessons. Mom Gillian and dad Jeff were part of the SENSations Team, each doing a turn in the ski relay! Thanks so much gang, it was tons of fun and we certainly look forward to next year. Check it out at 24hTremblant!!

24HTremblant is one event that Candlelighters very happy to be part of in 2012. We have a number of other things going on in the coming months:

We need 25+ volunteers each day over the weekend, May 26 and 27th, and are actively recruiting for that, as well as people who want to participate in the races/walks on our behalf. Please spread the word! Watch for updates and please visit our website for details of how you can be part of all the excitement!
