Junior Achievement's 23rd Business Hall of Fame
For the past 23 years, Junior Achievement has recognized five prominent Silicon Valley business persons and entrepreneurs who are considered to be role models to Bay Area youth at the annual Business Hall of Fame. On April 2, at the San Jose Fairmont, this year's inductees were: Norman Mineta, Steven Almassy, Greg Jamison, John Hopkins and Carol Sands.
The induction ceremony highlighted not only the Laureates professional accomplishments but also each one's commitment and involvement to the community. Ken Wilcox, President of Silicon Valley Financial Group and 2008 Laureate, was this year's Honorary Chair of the event. Ken stated that, "We continue to hear news of our unstable economy- we look to organizations like Junior Achievement that offer us the opportunity to reach out and directly impact our children's future economic stability." He also encouraged audience members to go home and write a check to Junior Achievement.
The annual event provides 25% of JA's annual budget. For more information log on to: siliconvalley.ja.org.

Plan Your Gifts for Greater Impact
The vital work of Junior Achievement is made
possible in part through the generous gifts of thousands
of individuals each year. If you would like to
support the programs of Junior Achievement, you may find
that time spent considering the best ways to make your
gifts can help you make
meaningful gifts while meeting personal planning goals
as well. You will discover ways to make larger
gifts than you may have thought
possible.
You can add meaning to your gift by
using it to honor a special friend or loved one. You
will see how to save money on income, gift, and estate
taxes and instead put those amounts to use in ways you
choose. That's what effective gift planning is all
about.

Junior Achievement Creates FREE Money-Management Teaching Tools
for Teachers, Parents
Junior Achievement Creates FREE Money-Management In its quest to help bridge the financial education gap, Junior Achievement USAŽ announced that it has created two new series of free, downloadable teaching tools designed to help both teachers and parents talk to young people about smart money management.
The lessons, called Junior Achievement $ave, USA, are posted at www.ja.org and cover such topics as budgeting, the importance of saving, understanding the cost of credit, how to use credit, and planning how to pay for college.
In addition, Junior Achievement has created 12 lessons for parents to use to talk to their children about personal financial literacy. According to the 2009 "Teens and Personal Finance" survey by Junior Achievement and The Allstate Foundation, the majority of teens surveyed (56%) feel that their parents are the best source of useful information about financial matters. These new parent teaching tools are intended to foster dialogue about sound personal finance practices, with a goal of having families put these practices into action.
"The lessons are intended to get classrooms and families talking about finances," stated President Steve Tedesco, "while providing young people with practical money management skills."
