May 2008 Spring Newsletter
Notes from JA
Greetings!
PwC at Vinci Park

Our 2007 Annual Report is hot off the presses, as well as the web, and we thought a little spring update on Junior Achievement was in order.

School testing is wrapping up and JA is in full swing in May and June with 14 JA-in-a-Day events.  That is 433 volunteers with 7,920 kids - 24% of our projected yearly total!

2008 Annual Report
This year, in an effort to save a few trees, we are sending our annual report primarily through our website.  Full of facts and figures plus a few interesting stories.

If you would like a real paper version of our report, please let us know by phone, email or a real paper letter.

Business Hall of Fame

Rubbing Elbows with the Valley Elite
2008 student speaker Jasmine
Our big annual dinner was held at the Fairmont San Jose on April 1.  It was a smooth and convivial event.  Over four hundred of our closest friends and some fifty high school students came to honor our 2008 Laureates and 18 past Laureates.

Too many to list here, the laureates are shining examples of business success and educational championship.  This dinner is our major fundraiser of the year; financing the introduction of key economic ideas to an estimated 4,721 kids this year - 14% of our projected yearly total.

Please mark your calendars for next year's event - Thursday, April 2, 2009.  We would love to have you come.

Student Company Competition

Where the rubber meets the road
Student Presenters
The student company is one of JA oldest programs.  In the student company competition, high school students tell a panel of judges about the companies they created.

This is the real deal.  They have products, shareholders, a president, and VP's of marketing, sales and operations.  With the advice and guidance of an adult volunteer, these student run companies organize, fund, produce, sell, and wrap up operations all within about 4 months.

This small and free event was hosted by Mentor Graphics on Thursday, May 8th and emceed by NBC11's Scott McGrew

Perhaps you would like to volunteer to guide one of these fascinating small companies for next year's event?
