Greetings!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! The first month of the new year is nearly gone already; that's unbelievable!
It's about the time that typical New Year's resolutions are fading away - I don't make resolutions, but I do create new beginnings, and I'm loving some of my new beginnings this year!
Another New Year activity I love is taking a look at what new training products and services I need to create this year, based on the information you give me! I listen to your needs and requests and plan ahead - and 2010 will bring some new training opportunities that I know you'll be excited about - so be sure and watch for future information!
This week's leadership tip is about looking ahead; one-twelfth of the year is already nearly gone. How have you been intentionally about looking at, and planning your year?
Check out the tip below, and have a great week!

MONDAY MORNING LEADERSHIP TIP #155 Look Intentionally Ahead |
|
Have you ever heard it said, "do you run your own life, or let your life run you?" Too many times our lives can run us, if we are not intentionally looking ahead. We need to live our life 'on purpose,' creating ways to be intentional about keeping first things first. This is true in our personal life, and in our life as a leader.
Taking out time to plan and be intentional about our year is not easy. But it can make all the difference in your peace of mind; it can keep you from feeling like you're on a treadmill that's stuck on high. So how do you do it? Here's how I do it:
Set aside a half day to assess what kind of planning I need to do, personally and professionally
-
This should be in a different environment for you, away from interruptions
-
Bring your planning calendar
-
Don't try to get a lot of planning done, just assess what you need, make notes
-
Determine what resources you will need, if any
-
Decide what the overarching planning needs are, i.e., new product development, staff training, etc.
-
Schedule another half day
Second half day
-
Work on specific planning logistics, i.e., I may need to write a series of leadership topics, so I create the topic titles and brief description of each
-
If you need to plan a large event, sketch out the framework and basic information to be followed up on later
-
Look at the entire year and reserve dates already schedule and/or set aside time for important events
-
Schedule regular planning time for yourself - this is the key to being able to remain intentional about what you want to accomplish
Ongoing
-
For each planning date you've scheduled, create an agenda for yourself and attend to whatever is needed at the time. In this way, you will always be looking 'down the road' and not backed into a corner with things that are due with too little time to prepare
Live your life intentionally!

How does Life Coaching work?
Generally done over the phone, Coaching is client-driven; you decide what you need, where you want to grow, and I provide guidance, support and accountability.
