Pathways to Excellence
Renew and Reenergize December 21, 2009
Greetings!

Merry Christmas!Christmas is only four days away! Is that good news or bad news for you? Either way, I suspect you're feeling the crunch!

I'm not much of a fan of 'last minute to-dos,' but it seems like at the holidays, there always seems to be plenty of those, even with advanced planning. It can be a time when fatigue can get the best of us, and it's important to create a pause in our life.

I know, that may sound impossible, but even a very short one can make all the difference!

This is the fourth week of a five-week tip series focusing on "Leading Through the Holidays - Five Tips to be a Powerful Influence." Today is Tip #4 in this series; check it out. If you missed Tips #1-3, you can find them here.

And have a wonderful week!
Teresa

 MONDAY MORNING LEADERSHIP TIP #152
Leading Through the Holidays: Renew and Reenergize

RelaxingWith the best of situations, and the best of planning, holidays are still stressful, and can cause you to be weary. Fatigue can be our biggest enemy to just about everything -- the Christmas cheer, patience, compassion to others, the ability to think clearly...the list goes on.

As you lead through the holidays, tap into our culture's tendency to take a break; you take one too. Allow yourself some time to wind down; it will give you more energy for the year ahead. How you do this depends entirely on you and what you need; maybe you carve out a whole day for yourself. Or maybe that sounds absurd and impossible! So maybe it's an hour; maybe it's 15 minutes a couple times a week - but make it yours.

Think about what reenergizes your spirit. Reflecting on accomplishments? If doing this makes you think of all you didn't get done, don't do it. Focus on something positive; build yourself up. Celebrate the good things that happened this year. Ponder those. What you focus on gets bigger, so focus on good things. I could list a dozen ways to take a tiny break to renew and re-energize, but you have to find what works for you. I've run this before, but this is my favorite holiday thought:

"Find yourself a quiet moment...Make yourself a cup of tea.... Let the season warm your spirit...Let the silence give you peace.... Let the doors of your heart be opened...And let Christmas enter in."
