Greetings!
Well, Thanksgiving is upon us! I hope you're planning a meaningful time with friends and family, or even maybe a little time on your own!
Many of you know that we have a brand new addition to our family this year, and this will be his first Thanksgiving. Our second grandson was born on November 2, and we are all getting to know and love him. What a change a new life brings to a household!
We all experience change so often in our lives - in the workplace, in our community, in our personal lives. Some of it we welcome, some we don't! This week's leadership tip takes a look at four things we can always expect with any kind of change. Take a look, and see if you find yourself here.
Have a great Thanksgiving holiday!

MONDAY MORNING LEADERSHIP TIP #148 Four Realities of Change |
|
Change is inevitable; it happens to all of us. It is not unusual to experience negative emotions and behavior during times of change, especially change that we did not choose on our own, nor do we welcome. Whether you're a leader that's responsible for helping others to accept change, or working to adjust to your own change, there are four basic principles about all change that is helpful to understand.
- Most all people initially resist change, or at least some aspect of the change.
- All change produces anxiety, even good change.
- People respond negatively to, and work to control and eliminate, anxiety.
- If you are the change agent, people will resist you.
Some common comments you may hear during the change process:
- We've never done it that way before.
- We tried that once, and it didn't work.
- We have always done it this way.
- I don't believe it will work that way.
Leading through change takes focused commitment and knowledge of change realities and principles. Just remembering the four realities above can make a significant difference in your ability to lead change. When you know what to expect from the people involved, you can more readily prepare yourself for the resistance you will surely encounter.
