Dozens of Pre-1915 Antique Cars to Visit Deerfield

"National HCCA Brass & Gas Tour" Coming Tuesday, June 21

Over 200 members of the Horseless Carriage Club of America (HCCA) will be visiting Historic Deerfield with dozens of their vintage cars on Tuesday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as part Brass & Gas Tour 1of The HCCA National New England Brass & Gas Tour.  They will be parking for the day on athletic fields in the North Meadows, and all are welcome to saunter up The Street to view the cars and chat with their owners.

"Part of our mission is to educate people about the early automobiles," said Don Rising.  "These machines had a big impact on people's lives back then, and the lives we live today."

The "newest" car among the vintage automobiles coming to Historic Deerfield is from 1915.  Tours are limited to non-modified vehicles built in 1914 or before, and other vehicles through 1916, that retain the hallmark characteristics of the brass era such as Ford cars.

Historic Deerfield's Frank Boyden Carriage Collection will also be on view by special arrangement in the barn behind the Williams House.  Ticketed visitors to Historic Deerfield will be able to meet museum guide Glenn Brown, and investigate the several examples of horse carriages and other transportation vehicles assembled there.

.Brass & Gas 2Hosted by The Autoneers, the New England Regional group of HCCA, the 2011 HCCA New England Brass & Gas Tour brings together vintage car owners and enthusiasts who enjoy brass cars and showing the world what automotive transport was like in the early days.

The first use of the term "Autoneer "is found in the Overland Monthly from 1902.  Today this anachronistic term is revived by an enthusiastic band of New Englanders who pay homage to those who have gone before.  For more information, visit www.autoneers.org or www.hcca.org.
