Insect Investigation
The Earth's soil is a major element sustaining the planet. The rich, fertile soil of Deerfield has nourished crops for thousands of years, making it possible for Native Americans, English settlers, and modern farmers to thrive on the land. Weekends this May, Historic Deerfield will help visitors investigate the diverse ingredients of soil and learn how it is formed in a new program titled "The Earth Beneath Our Feet." Visitors will make their own soil mix and plant seeds in a small pot to take home.
Included with general admission.

New! Reproduction Ironwork Available at the Museum Store

The new ironwork now available at the Museum Store is produced by John Salvatore Passiglia of Pierce Street Ironworks in nearby Greenfield, Mass.   A blacksmith for over 10 years, Passiglia formerly owned and operated Conway Tool & Forge in nearby Conway, Mass.  His designs are modern interpretations of classic items, and he is also available for custom work by request through the Museum Store - including for design and fabrication of special tools related to open hearth cooking including trammels, fireplace cranes, and toasters.
