Please Welcome Carrie Kaufman, NAO's New Director of Development & Communications
NAO is thrilled to welcome our new Director of Development and Communications, Carrie Kaufman! Carrie has over 20 years of management and fundraising experience in community-based groups, regional partnerships, and statewide coalitions. She has held positions of executive director, development director, program manager, and Board member.
Most recently, Carrie held development positions with Living Opportunities, Inc, the largest provider of services for people with developmental disabilities in Jackson County, and the Britt Festivals, where she increased corporate partnerships, expanded foundation funding, and initiated a capacity building strategy. In 2000-2003, she coordinated a statewide child abuse prevention program for the Oregon Department of Human Services. For over 20 years in Hawaii, Carrie worked in development at the historic Hawaii Theatre Center, as executive director of MADD-Hawaii, and as founding board member of the Hawaii Children's Museum. Carrie grew up in Portland and earned her B.A. from Linfield College. She's been active in Rotary, chambers of commerce, and other community groups. Join us in welcoming Carrie to our staff!

Survey Says...
Northwest Nonprofit Survey Deadline is June 22
Support the efforts of an M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust grant spanning four Northwest states (Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska) by taking the Northwest Nonprofit Survey here. The deadline is Friday, June 22.
With 31 short questions, the survey takes about 10 to 12 minutes to complete. Survey data will only be reported in an aggregate summary format--no organizations will be singled out or highlighted--and your contact information will not be shared with any other state associations.

Development Director Survey Reaches 2000+ Participants!
Nationally, the Development Director Survey (that many of you have already seen) hit the 2,000+ mark. Oregon is responsible for 102 of those--but we need your help to reach 200. If you haven't taken the survey, please consider doing so here. Feel free to share widely with your networks, too. The survey closes June 30.
CompassPoint, the survey host, has already received very interesting feedback from participants across the land. The Chronicle of Philanthropy presented a short piece on the project, too.

The deadlines to both sign up for and complete the 100 Best Nonprofits to Work in Oregon survey have been extended. You can sign up to participate in the project through June 22, and complete the survey by July 6. Learn more about the survey and find links to registration here.

Asset Building Cohort on Sustainability Program Launches in Salem Area
NAO is pleased to announce the launch of our Asset Building Cohort on Sustainability (ABCS) Program in the Salem area this fall. The program aims to support leaders and organizations working in the field of asset building. Loosely defined, asset-building organizations are those primarily focused on moving low-income people out of poverty.
This program is available at no-cost thanks to generous support from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. Learn more about the program and find out how to apply here. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on July 16.

Call for NAO Board Nominations
Are you interested in helping us continue to create a vital organization? Please consider nominating yourself or a qualified candidate who is with your organization.
The deadline to submit nominations is June 27. Nominees' organizations must be current NAO members. The nomination form includes a list of principal time commitments.
In selecting nominees, the NAO Governance Committee seeks to balance diverse geographic areas of the state, Oregon's demographic diversity, and broad representation from diverse nonprofit sectors.
NAO's Nonprofit Members will vote by mail on the new Board slate in early September and results will be announced at the Annual Meeting on October 12.

Portland Monthly magazine welcomes you to participate in the eighth annual Light A Fire Awards! They are currently accepting nominations for individuals and nonprofit organizations to be celebrated in their November 2012 issue and at an awards event in the fall. Member Spotlight: Volunteer Connect

|
Congratulations to Betsy Warriner, Executive Director of Volunteer Connect. Betsy was randomly chosen from our Oregon Nonprofit Sector Report survey respondents and won a free season pass for next year's Nonprofit Network of Central Oregon (NNCO).
Volunteer Connect is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in Bend, Oregon, which originally started as Volunteer Insights in 2004. The group's mission is "to connect volunteers with meaningful opportunities to deeply impact the Central Oregon community." As the group advocates for volunteers, with particular focus on each volunteer's unique experience, the organization envisions "a region of engaged volunteers nourishing our communities." (We do, too!)
