Do You Learn from Failure?

September 17, 2009
Greetings!
We all HATE to FAIL!

You may have already thought about it, but the victors are always a small percentage of those who "fought" in the battle to finish at the top. Some may even think its "unfair" to have just a few "winners" among the many participants, but nothing in life is ever completely fair.  We must learn from our failures to be VICTORS!

My experiences as a college athlete, in track & field, included many failures.  But those failures all gave me experiences that I could draw upon to become better at my sport.  Reviewing competitions, working on mechanics and practicing to develop better form and mechanics is what helped me gain some victories.  My failures helped me become a better coach later in life.  The time I spent improving my mechanics and form didn't actually become a constant until after I graduated.  But, I had spent so much time working at it that it finally became a "good" habit.

We must lay a good foundation and realize that good things will come over time.  Becoming a better athlete, losing weight, eating healthier, getting better grades all happen when we put strong efforts in over a long period of time.  NOTHING comes OVERNIGHT!

Everyone that has experienced a success has done so simply because they decided that by not trying, by not giving their best, they could never win, and they knew that even if they fell short, there would be another chance to achieve. And finally, whether you earned a victory or not, and whether you earn this one or not or the next one or not, the best "spoils" of all is the experience you gain from the attempt, for it will serve you throughout all the days of your life. With enough attempts there will be a victory for you. Just remember, failure is not something you are, it's something you experience that makes you better.
