Fri 8a - Morning Yoga with Lib Myers (starting May 8th)
Melissa Mimms, our resident image maker, has created an amazing slideshow with photos from the Adaptive Yoga class that JSY offered in Piedmont Park earlier this year. The event, "Yoga in the Park" was sponsored by the MS Society here in Atlanta. The event touched and moved everyone that participated, and I think the slideshow will move you as well. These are COURAGEOUS people!!
As Jai Shanti Yoga begins its seventh year, I'm also pleased to announce that I will be taking a break from teaching weekly classes from mid-June through September. In June, I will travel to CA to work with Saul David Raye and see my parents, and then more family travel in August. I will be around the studio often over the next few months, so this is not good-bye, just a break from weekly classes so I can focus on Thai massage, writing projects, and hopefully finish my first Yoga CD for home practice.
Thank you again for your continued support of Jai Shanti Yoga. We are all blessed to have this growing community support us.
We will begin teacher training at the end of July 2009. Are you interested in learning to teach yoga safely to other people,
while you gain new understanding and strength to your body and
practice? If you're curious, let's talk, and determine if it's time for
you to join. 404.370.0579 - studio office
What is Pranakriya Yoga? Pranakriya Yogais in the Tantric Hatha Yoga tradition and was developed by Yoganand Michael Carroll. Pranakriya Yoga is based on the Hatha Yoga teachings of Swami Kripalu, who was an ascetic yoga whose intensive practices led him to a very deep understanding of yoga.
Who is Yoganand?
Yoganand was a long-time student of Amrit Desai, Swami Kripalu and other teachers in Swami Kripalu's tradition. He was a resident of Kripalu Ashram and Kripalu Center, where he was initiated as a monk in 1994. In 1998, he became a director of the Kripalu Teacher Training program and the overseer for Kripalu Advanced Yoga Teacher Training.
Through his practice and study, Yoganand found that the vehicle of Kripalu yoga as it exists today was too limited. With the blessing of the current directors and developers of Kripalu Yoga, Yoganand gave name and expression to his understanding of the teachings of Swami Kripalu under the title of Pranakriya Yoga.
Pranakriya classes and programs are true to the ancient tradition Swami Kripalu lived and taught, and have been adapted by Yoganand Michael Carroll for western students living active lives in the world.
