Welcome to Russell Associates

Greetings!

It has been awhile since I've been in touch - no excuse really. Anyway here I am trying to be proactive once again, just to let you know I'm still alive. If you are interested in going to San Diego to the ASTD conference in June 08 let me know - we have as usual a group going along. Also as part of my new approach I am offering a free 1 hour session on Whole Brain Thinking or an introduction to using NLP - provided we can agree a suitable time. A new Certificate in Training Practice is scheluled for the new year - delivered partly by open learning to reduce the time spent away from work.

Visit the website www.thinking.ie drop me an email - take me to lunch!!!
Certificate in Training Practice

Russell Associates have teamed up with Development Processes Group to offer you a faster more efficient CTP qualification. 9 days off the job instead of 20 - we now use a combination of open learning and facilitated workshops. Spend less time away from work while obtaining your CTP qualification, leading to associate membership of C.I.P.D.

Coaching Tip: when using questions I avoid asking the  "Why?" question - It only gets a defend & justify response. " I did it because... & I'll do it again.." Instead ask "What?" and "How?" questions. "What did you want to acheive?" "How could you do it differently in the future?" You'll be amazed at the diference in response. You might even help someone change their approach.
Whole Brained Thinkng

Who are your most important customers, clients or prospects? Know what is important to them. Applying a Whole Brained approach to business problems means paying attention to the detail and the "big picture" it means managing with feelings and by fact.

Here is a quick analysis. Do you like to start or finish tasks? Are you a "fix it" or a "sell it" person? If you like to start and sell you are likely to be change oriented/adventursome. If you finish and fix you are orderly and practical. If you start and fix you are logical/rational. If you finish and sell you are lkely to be a team player/people oriented.

I once scheduled coffee on a course for 11:17 - the client was real detailed. It's a pity I wasn't or this newsletter might have been out sooner. If you haven't heard, felt & experienced the Whole Brain course you are missing a lot of "educatainment."

A new half day Whole Brain Business course is scheduled for the new year. I'd love to see you or a colleague there. Contact me hugh@thinking.ie

Rapport
Social Intelligence
Rapport

I like people who are like me - I establish rapport more easily. Remember that 38% of all communication is tone of voice and 55% is physiology. So most communication is outside of our conscious awareness. Too often communication takes place in a system where people are unconsciously mis-matching. Next month we'll tell you how to build "rapport."
Well it would be too much if I gave you this all at once  - people wouldn't be safe.

Social Intelligence

Karl Albracht (top man) has beeen preaching about social intelligence for a few years.  It is a useful concept and it will allow you to spot those with "social halitosis" - more importantly if you develop the competencies you'll stay breath fresh every day. The 5 key competencies are:

S- situational awareness
P- presence
A- authenticity
C- clarity
E- empathy
