May 2009 Fitzpatrick Winery & Lodge Newsletter
April Showers Bring May Flowers
Greetings!
April showers bring May flowers, that's a cheery little diddy to make an otherwise cold dreary week of mud seem wonderful. (That was the opening line to my April eNewsletter that I never finished or sent.) And wonderful it is; our cover crops are growing profusely capturing the atmospheric nitrogen and creating tons and tons of organic matter that we will disc in at the apex of their flowering. A rainy spring can make up for dry winter and send our vines into the hot summer with a healthy start. So life is good, Ay?

Life is great until you break ground with our long awaited and planned facelift and all turns to mud. So we've been mucking around weeks (when we started in early April) in phase one of what promises to be the most exciting addition to the Lodge since our wood-fired oven. And you know how life has changed since our wood-fired oven -Pizza and so much more. The sun will come out tommorrow (sounds like a song) and did and the facelift moves forward with godspeed. We're now into phase two, the creative part, where vision becomes reality - much more fun.

So expect the unexpected with these Big changes here with a planned debut in May, weather permitting. In the meantime enjoy the beauty of a Fair Play spring while you uncork the magic of Fitzpatrick wines especially this month's featured 2007 Sierra Dreams, 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2006 Zinfandel. Hold the date open for at least one day of Memorial(Decoration) Day weekend to come celebrate with us to kick off our 30th year. Read on for more info and a packed calendar of events coming up in May and June.

2007 Sierra Dreams, 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2006 Zinfandel
  May's Buy the Box Selections
Our Sierra Dreams is such an ode to spring in the Sierra Foothills that we had to include it in May. Starting with it's wildflower label, then its rosy pink translucence followed by it's sunny flavors of strawberries, raspberries and blackberries balanced with crisp acidity and a touch of sweetness, this 2007 Sierra Dreams is truly a real socializer and the stuff dreams are made of.That being said everyone should have a case on hand for that warm sunny afternoon when unexpected friends pop in. And what is already a great value at $10 and now become an unbelievable $6 by the box (case of 12).

Close your eyes and imagine a lovely $30 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Open your eyes to discover it's Fitzpatrick's 2006 vintage for only $16 and as May's selection only $9.60 per bottle by the box(case of 12). Barrel select this Cab is the blend of our 4 vineyard blocks each fermented seperately with either an exotic or 'wild' yeast and aged in a variety of American oak barrels new and seasoned. This Cab delivers a comfort-style of rich smooth complex layers of classic Cabernet Sauvignon satisfaction. Add a case to your stash for upcoming barbecues as well as formal dinner with family and friends. And you can afford to let it flow at this $9.60 price.

The Sierra Dreams and the Cabernet were April's selections but since I never sent an April eNewsletter how would you know. So I'm rolling those over to May and adding our very exciting 2006 Zinfandel too. Our 2006 estate Zin packs so much briary jammy berry flavors into a bottle I'm surprised the sides aren't bulging. And amazingly all that flavor, spice and oak notes has been captured within a modest 14.3% alcohol (instead of the typical 15-16% monster). So now you can pick up a case for 40% OFF the $17 per bottle price for $10.20 per bottle.

All three of these wines can be purchased at these special prices here at the tasting room, by phone, internet or pre-order and I'll meet you at the farmers markets. And you can help us make our Big Facelift here at the Lodge even more special with your overwhelming support by buying a case or two of these wines in May. Prices good through May 31st.

Kick Off Our 30th Year with us Memorial Day Weekend
Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday May 22-25
You won't want to miss our 30th year kick off, I guarantee it. Plan on visiting at least one day starting with Pizza Night on Friday May 22nd. Saturday May 23rd come visit when we debut our new expanded all- day lunch/winetasting menu followed by a late afternoon Library wine and cheese party in our new patio. Sunday May 24th visit any time to taste and collect your stash of current wines priced at 1980 retro prices and stay for a late afternoon Jam session with local musicians (and bring your own instrument and join in). And last but not least slow down and visit on Mellow Monday when we can chit-chat and reminesce the great times we've all had here over the past three decades; the full expanded menu of food will be available Monday May 25th too.

I normally do not send more than one email each month to my customers but this 30th year kickoff needs a last minute update with all the details of the weekend's festivities and especially the absolutely unbelievable 1980 retro-pricing of a broad selection of our current wines. You will be talking about this for years to come; so don't miss it.

Magical, Mystical, Historical, Beautiful, Friendly Ireland is waiting.
Will you be joining us this year?
Come October 2009 ten of us will be flying over the North Pole enroute to the Emerald Isle for a 14 day journey through a most fascinating and memorable magical land we call Ireland. We'll explore the quaint towns, villages and small cities from the rugged coastlines to the forested mountains and boglands. We arrive after tourist season has officially closed and we'll experience Ireland like the Irish do, all to ourselves. We'll customize the actual geography and activities based on discussions with members of our tour group while we pre-plan the trip. We'll be traveling in two 9-passenger vans with only 5 per van so everyone can stretch out. Unlike typical tours in large buses where nothing is flexible, this is your trip and we can accommodate almost anything.

So there's room for eight special people (couples or singles willing to share accommodations) to join us. If your interested now is the time to book your spot. You'll have many questions and I'll be happy to talk to you about all of them. The most ideal situation is for friends and families (adults) to fill the eight spots. However a mix of healthy, fun-loving adventuring travelers can create a new bond for a lifetime excursion too. Call 530-620-3248, email: brian@fitzpatrickwinery.com or stop by to reserve your spot today.
