November 2008 Fitzpatrick Winery & Lodge Newsletter
Happy Celtic New Year
Greetings!
There is a surefire remedy amidst all the media coverage of the elections, the wall street debacle and the prediction of the sky falling in. Turn off your television, turn off your radio and stop reading the non- stop bombardment of doom and gloom from the press. Can't swallow that medicine? The remedy does work. But neither can I. I am a news junkie. But I feel so much better when I'm so busy farming, winemaking, socializing I just don't have time to listen.

There's excitement here nonetheless. Harvest and the Crush, of course, are always exciting and going very well but we'll talk about that in next month's newsletter. What's absolutely exciting right now is our new stellar lineup of wines. The 2006 vintage of reds are coming on board and they're delicious, bright, refreshing and ready to please. The 2006 Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zinfandel, King's Red XIII are available right now and to follow will be the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Grenache and Tippitonia in time for the holidays. In addition the 2007 Chardonnay, 2007 Sangre de Montana, 2007 Sierra Dreams are here. I am totally pleased with and proud to be offering you such a quality lineup of our organically grown estate wines.

Let me offer some tips to staying healthy, happy and frugal during these uneasy times. And one more thing - Give a little wine, make a Big difference. Read on...

Tip One - Keep wine on your table!
  Shop for great value.
We all know that the price of a bottle of wine doesn't always reflect its true value. Even though the initial perception of wine quality is it's price, there are many exceptions both ways. So the true value of a wine is a measurement of it's qualities. Notice I said qualities. Taste being but one albeit the number one quality.

Besides how good the wine tastes, most wines have extras thrown in like a shot of herbicides to keep the vineyard looking pretty, a double shot of systemic chemicals running through its veins to ward off pestulence and helpings of synthetic fertilizers fed the grapes in the field and even the yeasts' fermentation in the tank. That's a lot of extras; but, does it add to the wine's value?

With our organically grown wine you go without those extra shots. You get what you're looking for, good taste, and nothing more. Now in this case less is mo' better.

So I suggest that Fitzpatrick wines deliver a greater value than most other wines. Great taste, great price and no more and that's just fine. So in response to these financially troubled times you can find your best value in Fitzpatrick wines. And we know more and more of you get that very point and see that our passion is not only to make good wine; but to make wine that is even better for you (and me too). Slainte!

Tip Two - Be Healthy, Think Healthy!
Your greatest Asset - You and your family's health!
More important now with the increased stress of the days ahead is to eat right. That means not only to eat lots of fruits and vegetables but take the time, make time, to prepare healthy meals and relax and enjoy them with family and friends. Talk about how you feel. Don't carry the world's problems all alone on your shoulders. Stay calm and be good to yourself.

Wine can play an important part in its moderate daily incorporation with healthy meals. The benefits of wine are many. But if it relaxes you and makes you happy and helps you enjoy a good night's sleep, what more magic can be uncorked? Well, studies are beginning to show there's benefits in organically grown wines like 3-5 times the antioxidants than conventional grown. Since when can you get more without paying more? - Fitzpatrick wines.

Tip Three - Be Happy!
  Work Hard, Play Hard!
Be Happy! Forget looking for happiness. Be happy everyday. Look around. Enjoy all there is. The cup is half-full. Work hard. Why not? There's satisfaction in being productive. But don't forget to play hard too. Happiness builds good health. So Don't worry, be happy.

Here's a short list of playful activities coming up at Fitzpatrick's that are sure to make you happy. Celebrate Nevada Days with no sales tax this weekend, enjoy our Fall beauty and a Ploughman's Lunch every weekend, new releases await your arrival, including our Poet's Choice Series of Ports, escape Black Friday and the mania at the malls and bring family and friends up to visit us and the other tasting rooms of Fair Play Thanksgiving weekend, choose and cut a Fair Play Christmas tree, and/or visit Davis and Sacramento Farmers Markets Saturday and Sunday mornings and pick up some Fitzpatrick wine and say hello to suggest a few.

Tip Four - Give and you shall receive!
Now more than ever your generosity can change peoples' lives
Give and you shall receive? Yes but don't calculate what to give based on what you expect to receive, that's not what it's all about.

People are hurting right now, some more than others and they may be your friends, neighbors and even family. Look around, be aware of maybe not the obvious but subtle signs of stress and possible trouble. I'm not suggesting you jump in to some one else's life but just show a little heart, a little kindness and deliver it in a bottle...or two.

Yeh, sure the holidays are coming but for some that means the stress is just starting to build. So, let's do something about it and I say let's because I will support you all the way. This is the year to make that extra effort to give the simple gift of caring - a bottle or two of wine to all the people around you that could use a little spirit lifter, an attitude adjustment or just a relaxing evening sipping that wine saying what a nice neighbor Joe the guy in the yellow house is. You've got my drift now.

And I've got just the wines that are sure to please everyone that receives them. And there cheap $10-12 for the whites (2006 Eire Ban, 2007 Chardonnay, 2007 Sierra Dreams or the 2007 Sangre de Montana) and $13-15 for the reds (2006 Merlot and the King's Red XIII). And count me in on the giving with a 30% discount on as many cases as your going to give away as gifts. Mix and match any of these wines mentioned in a case or more and tell me you're going to give it away - its that simple.

And what you'll receive back in good vibes will make your life all the better too. My offer is good starting right now through December 31st. Just let me know ahead so I can have enough cases labeled and ready for you. And I can bring them to the Farmers Markets too.

How thankful we are with all these great wines!
