September 2006 Fitzpatrick Winery & Lodge Newsletter
Our 27th Crush is here!
Greetings!
Our 27th Crush is here and I think it may be the best ever. We picked the Chardonnay and Semillion on August 30th, Pinot Noir and Merlot on the 12th and they all were the most beautiful I've ever seen. No kidding around this may turn out to be a stellar vintage. But you'll have to hold that thought until we revisit the bottled results a year or two down the road.

So it's time to get re-excited about what's ready to release. And we have an excellent lineup that's ready to make its debut starting right now. Read on to find out what's new and for upcoming dates for some exciting special wine events.

Also I hope you enjoy the up-to-the-minute pictures of many of our grape varieties placed throughout the newsletter.

Enjoy a little tradition during this harvest season with a visit to Fitzpatrick's. I fire up the wood oven and create a Oktoberfest luncheon plate of fresh-baked onion bread, carmelized onions and cabbage, applesauce and oven roasted bratwurst.

And while you're here, taste our lineup of wines, especially the four new releases: 2005 Queen's Gold, 2005 Sangre de Montana (could be the winning combo with the Oktoberfest plate), our first estate Cabernet Franc and the new 2003 Zinfandel. King Brendan's Great Medieval Feast is Saturday, November 4th
'Fancy that', said the Great Vintner   Celebration of the new King's Red XII and Queen's Gold Cabernet Sauvignon grapes
Yes, a new king is born. And on Saturday, November 4th the King's Red XII will be coronated at a Medieval Banquet in the Great Room at Fitzpatrick's. Only a very select group of Lords and Ladies will come enjoy the great feast with King Brendan, the XIIth. The feast will consist of wood-fired oven breads, meats and specialties paired with two new royal wines: the 2005 Queen's Gold and the King's Red XII. Period attire is highly recommended to fully appreciate the festivities.

This noble night to remember will be attended by the first 50 of the King's loyal subjects and the tax man will collect a $50 fee. You're all invited but to actually make the King's list call us at 800-245-9166 asap. And believe it or not we have held a few rooms just for this weekend. It's a two night minimum because there will be no time for cleaning rooms the day of the great feast.

The New Ports are coming just in time for those Fireside evenings
by Captain Yum   The Poet's Choice Series Merlot grapes
Never had a white port? Remember our 2002 vintage? Well our 2004 Joyce's Preoccupations is finally bottled and ready to enjoy. We may start to sneak preview this elixir before its official release. And add to that a new Z3 Cuvee of Zin Port plus another great vintage of Morrissey's Journey (ruby port of Syrah) and we have got an unrivaled lineup of estate grown organically farmed ports found anywhere. Our official new Ports release party date will be in November but we will sneak preview one or two before that during this harvest season at the tasting room.

We currently pour tastes of our 2003 Wilde's Soul of Man ( made from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet ports) and the 2003 Morrissey's Journey (the rich ruby port cuvee of Syrah). Just like firewood, stock up on our deliscious ports for those cozy evenings by the fire.

Buy the Box Club Selections
September & October   40% Off by the box (case)
Yes, I'm a little late with the September enewsletter but I'll blame it on harvest time. Nevertheless here's three fine wines to enjoy at the 40% Off by the box (case): 2002 Merlot, 2002 Syrah and the 2003 Eire Ban. Quantities are limited so grab your box before they're gone.

We will pay the next owner $100,000 to stay Certified ORGANIC

For over three decades, I have farmed organically in Fair Play. I've demonstrated that organic farming is not only environmentally benficial but can be successful on a commercial scale. I believe that ultimately the best wines throughout the world will be made from organically grown grapes. And why not, they're absolutely pure. Wine is good for you; we all know that. But wine without herbicides and chemical pesticides/fungicides, etc. is truly the most healthy choice.

So to keep our tradition of Organic farming, I am offering the next owner $100,000 to stay Certified Organic. Each year upon renewal of the CCOF Certification I will pay $10,000 for the next ten years. This will cover all the costs and more associated with cover cropping, composts, organic spray materials and certification. There's no excuse to not farm organically. It simply takes an Attitude adjustment. So for those of you counting up your change to purchase our farm, there's this $100,000 bonus to factor in.
