The Wearing of the Green
|
| |
Greetings!
If you haven't noticed, my favorite color is green.
And the month of March is the greenest of all.
Anchored mid-month, Saint Patrick's Day celebrates
Ireland's patron saint and the Fitzpatrick (Mac Giolla
Padraig in old Irish) Clan, the pride of being Irish and
most importantly my father's 85th Birthday. The face
of Ireland with its multiple shades of green is duly
duplicated here in Fair Play in the month of March
with all the wonderful spring rains interspersed with
the lenghtening sunny days.
March and the coming of spring is a time of great joy
for everyone. But it's also a time to reflect on the
Great Hunger (Famine) that killed and displaced
millions in Ireland in the 1840's and beyond. My
ancestor William Fitzpatrick fled that famine in 1848
for America as did some of your ancestors too. So we
made a tradition over the years to serve homemade
Potato Soup with hearty bread each Saturday and
Sunday throughout March. On Sunday March 12th
and of
course March 17th itself, Guinness Beef Stew will be
served from noon until closing. If any remains you
may enjoy a lucky bowl on Saturday too.
We'll be having some Irish fun all through March too
with the Wearin' of the green, releasing some
excellent new wines, an exciting month of Buy the
Box Club specials, our annual Irish Trivia test where
you can earn a 17% discount, plenty of great Irish
beers and food, new stock of Guinness shirts and all
your smiling faces so proud to be Irish.

5 wines selected for the savin' of the green
You all remember by now how Buy the Box Club
works. I select three wines each month that you can
buy by the case for a whopping 40% Off. However
this month because we're all feeling good and
showing our colors, they'll be five wines to choose
from to save all that green.
And the wines are: the Irish-named 2003 Eire Ban,
our rich flavor-full Sauvignon Blanc, for an
unbelievable $68.40 per case; a walk through the
briar patch jammed with spice and toasted notes
bottle of 2002 Estate Zinfandel for the very modest
price of $151.20 per case; the downunder wonder
you bet your ass 2001 Cab/Shiraz for the upside
down price of $129.60 per case; the most
congeniality award smooth and berry deliscious 2001
Robert Cowan Vineyard Zinfandel for a walk-away
price of $122.40 per case and the brick-red once
upon a time re-released 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon
which you'll have to taste to experience the benefits
of a little extra aging can do for a very appealing
$129.60 per case.

Enjoy some wine and our Ploughman's Lunch
Just think in an hour or less most of you could be
here sitting on our deck, taking in the view, glass of
wine in hand and our Ploughman's Lunch there to
nourish you too. As a matter of fact, this month, that
very green month of March, you can enjoy a hot bowl
of our homemade Irish Potato Soup each weekend or
on the 11th, 12th and 17th some real Guinness Beef
Stew. And if the weather is bad come warm up by
the fire with that bowl of good grub.
