6th Annual Houston Latino Book & Family Festival
Once again the George R. Brown Convention Center will be the venue as we gather for the 6th annual Houston event.
As part of its tenth anniversary season, Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say is proud to once again organize the 6th Annual Edward James Olmos Houston Latino Book and Family Festival presented by The Houston Chronicle and the University of Houston Clear Lake, September 20 and 21, 2008, 10 am - 5 pm. Admission is free. Am erica's first best-selling Mexican American author Victor Villaseñor, the author of Rain of Gold, Burro Genius, Thirteen Senses and the soon to be released, Crazy Loco Love highlights the line up of over 30 Latino authors and workshops. Click on Mr Villasenor's picture to the left to visit his home page and learn more about this great writer. Our workshop program provides a basis for cultural and educational information to complement Hispanic Heritage month. Other authors include Gustavo Arelleno, who pens the nationally syndicated column Ask A Mexican, and literary sensation Stephanie Griest Elizondo author of 100 Places Every Woman Should Go. More authors are being added daily. The Houston event is the largest book fair in the state of Texas. We hope to see you there! For this year's Houston festival look for an extended children's program put together by Marie Elena Cortés, the director of the Houston based literacy program, Kids Write to Know.
To guarantee the best location on the show floor, get your booth reservations in today. Call the Festival office at 760-434-4484 to reserve your space. You may also download the Houston exhibitor's brochure here.

11th Annual International Latino Book Awards May 28, 2009
We are happy to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 International Latino Book Awards (ILBA) to be held at the Javits Center in New York City on the afternoon of May 28. Each year the awards ceremony is held in conjunction with BookExpo America, the country's largest book publishing industry trade show.
Publishers, authors, publicists and all friends of literacy are invited to nominate their favorite books from 2008. There are 62 categories open for nominations: English and Spanish language categories covering everything from fiction to self-help to children's and young adults. Books must have been published in calendar year 2008 to be eligible. For the 2009 awards we are excited to announce the addition of four new categories, including Best Young Adult Sports/Recreation (A11 & A12), (B19 & B20), a general fiction category, Best Popular Fiction (C37 & C38), Best Gift Book (B19 & B20) and Best Graphic Novel (C47 & C48). Please consider all the categories carefully before deciding which ones best fit your submissions.
You will find nominating forms and instructions in both English and Spanish here. The nominating process lasts until March 13, when the books will be sent to our diverse panel of judges, but if you get your entries in prior to January 16 you are eligible for an "early bird" fee reduction.
