Custom makes the difference... |
Greetings!
Whether remodeling or building new, customization makes the difference between an "ok" kitchen or one that reflects (and accomodates) your household. In remodeling a kitchen for a client with two wire hair fox terriers, Johnny Be Good & Isadora, the owner wanted an accessible, but out of sight, feeding area for the dogs. In the existing floorplan, the doggy dishes were in full view when anyone entered from the front door or the garage. With the total remodel (left), of the entry, dining room and kitchen area we created an open floor plan that expanded the view even more!
To accomodate their wish list, I designed a special feeding station for the dogs that blended seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen, was easy to reach, but was accessed from the back of a cabinet - totally out of sight!
The cabinet has a standard 24" deep drawer base at the "front" (right) and a 12" deep open shelf unit at the back. Holes were cut into the cabinet floor to hold the dishes and prevent spills.
Shelves above hold treats and other small items (see top photo).

What Will They Think of Next?
| Recipe Holder |
This has to be the best idea ever! It's inexpensive. Everyone has one. It brings the recipe up to eye level... I love it!
It could also be placed near a computer & used to hold a document that is being transcribed.
Thanks, Adrienne! Sometimes you can find great ideas on the internet!

Aging in Place Remodeling Goes Mainstream...
AIP remodeling goes mainstream as more homeowners choose to remain in their homes as they age. 9 out of 10 people age 50 or older say they want to remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible. "CAPS professionals are providing the expertise these familes need to stay in their homes safely and in style. This generation is typically healthier and wealthier than previous generations of similar age and expect their homes to reflect their active, independent and upscale lifestyles."said Scott Sevon, CAPS, GMR, GMB, CGP, 2012 chair of the NAHB CAPS Board of Governors. While the majority of CAPS consumers are 55-64 years of age, remodelers report that 23 percent of clients are younger (45-54 years of age) and planning ahead to age-in-place.
