Getting ready for Day of Silence - choosing activities, supplies and formulating strategies for making this a great year for Day of Silence. The National Day of Silence is a day of action in which students across the country take some form of a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Through their activities students can speak out against harassment and organize for change for their schools and communities. Learn more!

LGBT and Allies Survey!
| |
We need your help! Please spend 10 minutes of your time filling out an anonymous online survey that will help OUTreach design the very best programming and activities as we move into our new, expanded Center! The Northern Utah LGBT Needs Assessment will also help publicize the unique challenges and opportunities of being LGBT and allied in Northern Utah. Please take the survey and share widely - the more responses we have, the more accurate the results will be. AND you might win a $50 gift card or some movie passes!

Save the date! July 27 & 28 OUTREACH LGBT and Allies Youth Summit
| | |
OUTreach is excited to announce the first annual Youth Summit to be held at Weber State University, July 27 & 28! OUTreach youth are planning fun and educational workshops and talks on topics important to LGBT and allied youth and the adults who support them. Save the date - you won't want to miss this huge event!
We will feature a different speaker in our newsletter each week - and this week, we shine a spotlight on Utah SAGE coordinator, Charles Frost!
Charles Frost is a native Utahan, LGBT activist & employee, director, certified coach, business leader, civic volunteer, and actor. In 2011--Charles
was named Outstanding Performing Artist of the Year, Mayor's Awards in the Arts/Utah Arts Festival and Q-Salt Lake's Person of the Year. Charles just finished the world premier of "Dottie, the Sister Lives On!" to rave reviews and two extensions of its run - audiences couldn't get enough!
Charles will be doing a special presentation on mentoring LGBTQ youth. More than 60% of youth don't know one supportive adult, and yet studies show that it is exactly support, mentoring and positive interactions that can make all the difference in keeping a youth safe and helping them to live into their full potential.
Charles is the Utah State coordinator of SAGE, a national organization which supports and advocates for LGBT persons age 50 and older, and is also passionate about bright futures, health and safety for ALL youth (his Sister Dottie fundraisers are a major source of support for OUTreach youth and programs). Charles, we salute you, and look forward to learning more about mentoring youth in July!

OUTreach Move UPDATE
| | We are crunching numbers and comparing options - and there are a few amazing options for OUTreach in downtown Ogden! The Board of Directors is busy interpreting the findings of the Site Committee and is getting ready to prepare a letter of intent. It will be soon, and we'll keep you posted!
How can you help? By telling us your thoughts! Please take a few minutes to fill out the LGBT Needs Assessment online. It will help us match the needs of the community with the new site for OUTreach. Filled it out? Good for you - now please share it far and wide in Northern Utah (above Salt Lake City)!

Amir A.H. Jackson
Nurture the Creative Mind Foundation, Founder/Director
In his words, "It is my belief that we as people have more similarities between one another than differences and that basic fundamental disagreement and appreciation can co-exist. It is also my belief that the whole is greater and stronger than its individual parts. The Nurture the Creative Mind Foundation's programs teach these ideas using poetry and music as the means, once learned I am confident that the students are better for it."
