Important Update on the Verizon Cable Issue |
|
The RPNA has been concerned about the visual blight caused by Verizon in the stringing of overhead cables and equipment throughout our neighborhood and much of the city.
We brought these concerns to our council office. Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal shared our disappointment over the messy work and unsightly cabling and has been assisting us in contacting Verizon and our State Representatives.
Today Suja provided the California Public Utilities Commission with pictures, locations and information based on RPNA's letter. Suja Lowenthal has requested a site visit and review from a CPUC staff engineer.
If there is bundling or cabling that's out of compliance with state regulations, CPUC staff will work directly with Verizon to remedy the situation.
In addition, Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal will be submitting a motion for Council consideration on Tuesday, June 19, asking the City Attorney to identify any remedies at the city's disposal including, but not limited to land use, regulation, blight and historic district status.
The Second District Council Office has assured us that they will continue to engage Verizon in discussion about the community's concerns.
Thank you to all the Rose Park residents that signed the petition for change in the overhead cables covering our neighborhood!
This request/complaint will be sent directly to Verizon executives in an effort to draw attention to their responsibility for these unsightly cables.
Please sign the petition here: Don't deface our neighborhood

Rose Park Residents Express Their Hopes for E. 7th Street |
|
Wednesday evening we were in the reception room hosted by Anderson Real Estate Group. All current RPNA members had their name placed in a drawing for 2 Jet Blue tickets
The association spends a great deal of time working to improve the neighborhood, so we were anxious to show you what is being planned along East 7th St.
People shared their thoughts about the proposed changes at 2300 E. 7th St. (the Big Lots property) by writing on our blank "streetscape".
Not only was it fun but it was informative and helpful to JMS Architectural who are donating designs to help further the beautification and renovation of this important street.

On Sunday August 19th 2012, the Rose Park Bluegrass Festival will be designating 4 new outstanding recipients of the coveted "Distinguished Rose" award. We need to hear from you, about the people who you think make Rose Park such a wonderful place to live. Whether it's somebody who advocates for neighborhood improvements, somebody who regularly participates in neighborhood clean ups, or somebody who merely helps their next door neighbor take out their trash, we want to know who and why. Recipients will be honored on the day of the festival with a one-of-a-kind framed certificate, a beautiful red rose and a commemorative brick to be placed on the walkway in Rose Park. Past winners include:
- Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal (2nd District Councilmember)
- Emily Stevens (President of the RPNA)
- Gretchen Swanson (Restoration Trade Fair)
- Officer Claudia Lopez (LBPD)
There is no age requirement, but nominees must be residents of Rose Park or Rose Park South (subject to verification). Please submit your nomination(s) for the 2012 "Distinguished Rose" award, along with a brief description of why you think they deserve this honor.

Using Go Long Beach Phone App to Repair Your Curb |
|
If you use a smart phone please consider downloading the free app Go Long Beach.
The city of Long Beach can respond to a curb repair GoLongBeach request if the damage is less than 5 feet in length.
This is great news for us! Even if your street is not scheduled for complete repair you can have the deteriorating curb repaired.
There are several issues that can be reported to the city and the application sends them to the correct department. Report graffitti, damaged sidewalks etc. easily and the response if incredible.
Graffitti is usually removed within 24 hours!
Thank you Long Beach!

Light Up Rose Park: Home Security Lighting |
|
Increased security lighting in the neighborhood is a way for Rose Park residents to deter crime and compensate for the occasional old tree blocking your streetlight.
Criminals will probably avoid streets in our neighborhood that are well lit.
Just imagine a safer street after dark!
Please consider purchasing solar motion activated lights that have a range equal to or longer than the distance from the light to the sidewalk. As people walk along at night they will be illuminated as they go, making the street safer and helping iwatch participants.
Your opinions on this issue are valuable and desired. To comment on this please email
