New York Times on Long Beach, CA
New York Times Travel article focuses on Long Beach and our neighborhoods.

Boy are we getting a lot of press!  Recognition like this is a result of positive, forward thinking individuals and groups.

We know to thank the many city of Long Beach departments, our councilmember and vice mayor Suja Lowenthal and her staff, the Neighborhood Resource Center, the LBPD and our fellow neighborhood associations and groups for their foresight to support the efforts of neighborhoods.

Successful Arbor Day Planting on 4th & Junipero
RPNA has coordinated with Garden of the Mind, Luther Burbank and 4th St. Retro Row for a planting along 4th at the school's fence.

Have you seen it?  Volunteers met and spent the afternoon planting to make the area outside the school fence "easier on the eye".  Check it out!

A bit of background about the plants from the Rancho. . . they are cuttings from succulents originally planted by the Bixby family in their home gardens. The plants included several forms of Aloes, some planted at the site as early as 1911. The largest number of cuttings was from Torch Aloe. Also, Climbing Aloes, a low border Aloe Nobilis; Jade plant; Crassula (multicava) was planted in the shade behind the covered bus stop. Its spreading habit will fill this area with dark green foliage that bursts with a spray of light colored flowers in early spring. And there is more! Foxtail, Blue Chalk Sticks and Aeoniums.

Yoga in the Park

Join your Rose Park neighbors for a yoga class out under the trees in Rose Park every Saturday morning at 11 AM. The class is led by senior yoga instructor David Hennage 500 RYT accompanied by Kate Chou who teaches Qigong. Every Body is welcome as we move gently with our breath in beautiful Rose Park. Donations are accepted.

Look Up!  Have YOU Signed the Petition?

Thank you to all the Rose Park residents that signed the petition for change in the overhead cables covering our neighborhood!

Now we are going to ask you to do it again through our online petition for change.

This request/complaint will be sent directly to Verizon executives in an effort to draw attention to their responsibility for these unsightly cables.

Light Up Rose Park: Home Security Lighting

Increased security lighting in the neighborhood is a way for Rose Park residents to deter crime and compensate for the occasional old tree blocking your streetlight.

Criminals will probably avoid streets in our neighborhood that are well lit.

Just imagine a safer street after dark!

Please consider purchasing solar motion activated lights that have a range equal to or longer than the distance from the light to the sidewalk.  As people walk along at night they will be illuminated as they go, making the street safer and helping iwatch participants.
