Extravagant Love...

"And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma." Ephesians 5:2

We are often reminded of God's love for us throughout the Bible. God's love is an extravagant love! It is a love that doesn't look to get something, but to give something. This extravagant love is selfless! As the redeemed of Christ we are called to walk in love. We are to love extravagantly as our heavenly Father. We are to show this world the reality of Christ by His extravagant love that works in us and through us. We are to love this world without thought of profit and gain that those who do not know Christ may come to know Him through us. Jesus said that we should not only love those who are willing to love us back, but we are to love our enemies as well. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said, "You're familiar with the old written law, 'Love your friend,' and its unwritten companion, 'Hate your enemy.'   I'm challenging that. I'm telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer,   for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best-the sun to warm and the rain to nourish-to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that.   If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that." Brothers and sisters, let us love "Extravagantly", that this world may know and experience the same love that washed us from our sins, and made us the children of God!

"For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another"

1 John 3:11
