"He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted with honor." Psalm 112:9

We are called to give beyond ourselves. We must look beyond our own "back yard"! We are to have a heart that matches that of our Lord. Our Lord has a heart for the lost of this world, regardless of nationality! Our Lord has a heart for the poor of this world, for the orphan and the widow. If these are important to our Lord they better be important to us also!

God promises to bless us, so that we can reach out to the lost, and the hopeless, so that we may be light in this world! Isaiah 32:20 says, "Blessed are you who sow beside all waters, Who send out freely the feet of the ox and the donkey." We will be blessed as we send out laborers into the fields of the world to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to them. Proverbs 28:27 says, "He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses." If we will take care of the poor and needy God will make sure we lack nothing!

When we give and serve to expand the Kingdom of God we are storing up treasures in Heaven! We are laying aside eternal treasures that can never be taken away! Let us lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal!

"But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth." 1 John 3:17-18
