"Rock climbing is like chasing your dreams, because you know you want to get to the top, and at the top is conquering something new that was your dream. Or you can make it into something else that you want to do in the future." -A Kismet Student

"Kismet has changed me. It has helped me to grow into the person I am today. Before I attended the program, I never really had the opportunity to go into nature and to see the beauty of northern New Hampshire. One of the ways I have changed in my life is being more patient with people and being more understanding of other people's feelings. It was almost as if I was enriched by the mountains. It also helped me to know that I was cared about a great deal by the staff and other kids." -A Kismet Student

Greetings!
Nonprofit organizations like Kismet have two audiences they 'market' to: those who benefit from the service and those who believe in and support the service. Sometimes those audiences overlap, but often they do not.
Mike Jewell, Kismet's program director and founder, is in the midst of 'marketing' our program to potential students (see article below) with visits and presentations at all of our sending schools.
Simultaneously, we are looking to our community for donations of needed climbing equipment, hosting of student cookouts, and, of course, donations of money that make the summer program season possible. Many of you donated already in response to our annual appeal letter a few months ago - thank you! Please consider the following ways that you can ensure a successful summer:
- Donate money. We simply cannot exist without contributions. (Check out our new Anchor Team!)
- Donate equipment. Furniture, cooking supplies, climbing gear and office equipment are on our list currently.
- Host a small outreach event in your home or office, particularly in the areas where our students are from: Portland ME, Boston MA, Manchester NH, Gorham NH and North Conway NH.
- Tell your friends. The best way we have found to build our community is by word of mouth. Take a moment to brainstorm a few friends or colleagues who might share an interest in our educational mission, and please tell them about us!
- Host a cookout this summer for Kismet students.
- Join our event planning committee to create the Kismet Cliff Run, ¡Caliente! and other events.
- Volunteer at the cliffs, in the office or on a committee.
Please respond to this email or call me at 603.986.9457 to learn more about any of the above. Thank you, as always, for all that you do to make this work possible.
Climb on,
Janet Bergman
