Greetings!
Thank you for continued prayers as we're embarking upon a new journey to join the Missionary Aviation Repair Center in full-time missionary work in Alaska.
In the past week, God has enabled great progress toward our financial goal of raising $60,000 to fund our initial moving & living expenses, but we still have approximately 65% to go.
David will be traveling to Soldotna on 10 Sep to spend a month serving with the MARC team. While there he will also make initial preparations for our upcoming move, which will hopefully occur in the Oct/Nov timeframe.
At the end of Sep, MARC is also sending David to a Christian resource development & stewardship conference to help prepare us for our work in Alaska. Meanwhile, Karin will also be busy preparing our household goods in New York for the transition.
If you haven't already joined with us in the effort to make a true difference in the lives of the Alaskan people, please take a few minutes to read our case for change. We're praying to make a quick transition and still need your financial help to do so.
Are you still wondering why MARC's airlift and maintenance support is so critical to Alaskan missions? Check out the great video from one of their mission partners, Arctic Barnabas Ministries. We're really looking forward to having an active role in supporting this type of mission activity in Alaska.
We appreciate your prayers & encouragement!

What's at Stake?
Simply put--an entire generation!
Although a place of natural splendor, the inhospitable arctic region of western Alaska is dotted by over 230 remote villages where thousands of people live in third-world conditions where spiritual oppression, alcohol, drugs, sexual abuse, and suicide are the norms.
Unfortunately, in addition to the isolation, extreme weather, inadequate housing, and high cost of living, Alaska has the highest rate of rape in the country; Alaska Native women are more than two times more likely to be sexually assaulted than women of all other ethnicities in the US. And almost unimaginably, in four out of five sexual assault cases the assailants are relatives, friends, or acquaintances.
Both the Native infant mortality rate and fetal alcohol syndrome rate are more than twice the national average. Nearly one in every eight Native males between the ages of 14 and 17 has been in, or is in, juvenile detention during the year. More than 21 percent of Alaska Native families live below the poverty line income. The murder rate among Alaska natives is four times the national average, and virtually half of the suicides in the Native community are committed by 15-to-24-year-olds.
Behind each of these statistics is a ruined life, a ruined family. Dan Sullivan, Alaska Attorney General
These real life problems make the inhospitable terrain, weather, and living conditions pale in comparison. These conditions are having a diminishing effect upon the native culture and heritage, and if nothing is done, many more adults and children will be lost to this spiral of darkness and neglect; the culture will be gone forever; and the government will spend more and more money trying to solve a hopeless problem.
Fortunately there is hope: Jesus Christ's unconditional love.
...Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Luke 10:27
Ready to reach the next generation, Pastors, missionaries, evangelists, Bible camps, churches, and other ministry agencies are working to not only meet the basic physical needs of the Alaskan people, but are also working to bring the life changing power of Christ to their communities.
During the summer, Bible camps offer the children a safe environment where they can experience unconditional love--perhaps the first time in their young lives. Many young native Alaskans come to know the Lord through this venue, and MARC helps provide that love and transportation to & from their villages.
Ministering in the villages themselves requires a true commitment and dedication. You can't just walk into a village and be successful. Relationships of trust have to be nurtured over a long period of time to reach the adult generation. That's why the work of pastors and missionary families living and ministering in the villages is critically important. To be successful in this difficult environment, these "front-line warriors" need a reliable network of support and encouragement. MARC is that "lifeline" of support.

How Can You Help?
David-Karin Reese |
First and foremost, we covet your prayers. This will be a life-changing event for us that will be full of uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. We don't really know what the future holds for us in this endeavor, other than we're confident of God's love & provision! So we'll certainly need your prayers! It's bound to be a rough transition for us as we put our skills to work in a new direction.
Second, we need your financial support ... but only for a short amount of time. Because our role will be focused on donor development, MARC desires to create our role as a salaried position to avoid any conflict of interest issues from our fundraising roles. As we're able to secure grants & foundation funding support, MARC will eventually be able to include our salary requirements within those applications & resultant funding. So we'll pay for ourselves over time.
But to help lower the financial risk for MARC in bringing us onboard quickly, we're praying God will work via individuals, churches, or organizations to cover our moving & initial living expenses until we're able to generate organizational funding for MARC.
So we're trying to quickly raise $60,000 for our initial support to relocate & survive the high cost of living in Alaska.
We could go the traditional missionary route and spend up to a year on the road trying to generate enough annual support to fund the effort. There's a lot of value in that methodology & approach, but we simply feel God is leading us to go now-not later. The need is overwhelmingly great, we have the right skill sets to serve in this role, and thankfully to years of military life, we know how to move quickly! We don't want to delay another year before being able to make that difference.
However, it's about way more than just generating some funds. Whether or not others choose to participate, we're confident God will provide our needs just as He has our entire lives. But, as many of you have been involved in our lives for the past 40 plus years, we really want to enable you to be involved in this ministry also. We can be the "hands & feet" but we want others to help be the "heart & soul" of what we're doing, because the joy of helping others is so rewarding, and we want you to experience that with us.
So we're going Missionary 2.0 ... that is, we're trying to use e-mail, Facebook, Skype, Twitter, and any other e-method that we can to visit each of you virtually as quick as we can to not waste any precious time in being able to get to the mission field. If each of you will forward this message to your friends, suggest our Facebook page to others, etc., we can get the word out quickly & effectively and have a better chance of raising the required support & involving many people in this great opportunity to make a difference.
Would you prayerfully consider making a one-time or short-term repetitive donation to help make this a reality?

Please don't forget to share this e-mail with your friends, family, and colleagues. One contact can lead to many contacts.
Thank you for prayerfully considering this need. We're praying God will enable us to be used for His calling and glory in Alaska.
