NEW BOARD CHAIR NAMED

Mr. Phil Garmey has agreed and been approved by the Diocese to serve as our new School Board Chair.  He is a proud graduate of Holy Cross, Class of 1965; his two brothers and one sister also attended Holy Cross.  In fact, Mr. Garmey's mother, aunts and uncle also attended!  Currently, his grandson, Hayden Ferrell, is a proud member of our kindergarten.

Mr. Garmey joins the Board with over 40 years of experience in private education.  He has been a teacher, coach, administrator and Head of School in his career.  His wealth of knowledge will certainly be an asset in moving the school forward.  We welcome our new chair and wish him God's many blessings!

COMMENDED STUDENTS

Ora Arthornsombat, Brian Loftus and Elizabeth Main have  been named Commended Students in the 2013 national Merit Scholarship Program.  A letter of commendation was presented to the students at school on Tuesday, September 25, 2012.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Although they will not continue in the 2013 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 PSAT.

A spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation comments, "The young people recognized as Commended Students represent some of the best and brightest minds in the country as demonstrated by their outstanding performance in our highly competitive program.  We sincerely hope this recognition will provide them with additional educational outlets and motivate them in their pursuit of academic achievement.

High School News
Many thanks to Hannah Todd, Lanie David, Annie David, and Mary Paige David for coming in Saturday to decorate for the Homecoming Dance.  We couldn't have done it without you!  Thanks to our parent chaperones - Rony, Golden, Owens, and Shubert.  Many thanks to Glenn and Jane Trent for bringing the limo for our pictures! Special thanks to Jay Mata for getting the movie posters for us!

Used Ipod Touches or Ipads Wanted
We would really love to have Ipod touches or Ipads to use in the classroom with our younger students.  There are hundreds of educational apps available for both devices that would be wonderful learning tools for our PreK, K and 1st grade students.  If you or someone you know has upgraded a device or has one that is not being used - or if you would like to purchase  a new one - we would greatly appreciate it if you donated it to our school!  Please contact Carolyn Jones at jones_c@hcrs-va.org or in person.  Thanks in advance for helping us upgrade our technology for our little folks at HC!
