From the Principal:

Another week devoted to scholarship, character and service at Holy Cross School!  Ask one of our third graders about a trip to the high school science lab to see fluorescent rocks "glow" - or ask a middle/high student about their first club meeting on Friday's "Club Day" - check with one of our athletes to learn that the JV Volleyball team took 2nd place in a recent tournament - chat with a second grader about meeting their prayer partners - or ask a Pre-K student about their "silly snakes."  The school is alive with learning!  Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life! Thank you for a great week and for entrusting your children to our care.

Tom Bruzek, Libby Guglielmetti, Isabella Marshall, Alex McCray, Patrick McCray,  Angelina Stephens, Madeleine Stephens, Laura Wingfield, Hunter Raso, Hannah Raso, and Jonathan Servas
Use this long weekend to contact family and friends about helping our school.

Don't forget about the online shopping option! Register your child under his or her teacher's name and start selling!  Your friends and family can order from anywhere.  All they need is our school number- 105349.  Let's reach our goal of $13,000 in sales!

Attention 6th through 12th Graders:  Become a Gael Guide for the 2012-13 School Year!
Gael Guides are an integral part of our Admissions programs and will serve in a variety of capacities which include hosting a visiting student during the school day, participating in Open Houses and special school events as well as potentially touring prospective families. Applications are available in the front office and are due to Mrs. Lawson by Monday, September 10th.

Jars, Lids, and Rings Needed
Second Graders will be making peach jam at Tabor Retreat Center, Thursday, Sept. 6.  If you have any small canning jars, lids, and rings, could you please donate them to Mrs. Schemmel by Tuesday, Sept. 5?  The canned jam will be sold at the annual "Breakfast with Santa" in December, the profits going back to our school.  Thank you so much!

Summer reading/Olympic Fun Day

We have good news to share: with only 1 day left to turn in reading records, 95% of elementary students have already brought theirs in. Tuesday is the absolute last day to turn them in and get your invitation to the Olympic Fun Day on Sept. 10th. Contact Mrs. Main this weekend if you have questions.     [email protected]

We would also like to thank all of the parents who have offered to donate food and drink items, or prizes, for the event. If you haven't already signed up and would like to help out by donating, please contact Mrs. Main ASAP! (See e-mail above)

We are still in need of pool noodles and a few more hula hoops. If anyone has a badminton net that is small and easy to transport, let us know if you would be willing to loan it to us.

College Visits

College visits are being scheduled to avoid AP, DE classes and lunch whenever  possible.  Every effort is also being made to spread out times so that the same classes are not being missed, but that's not always possible.  Students are responsible for making up any missed work due to attending sessions with college reps.

Labor Day Prayer from Sisters of Bon Secours

A Prayer for Labor Day

O God, creator of the world,
of sun and moon and stars,
you chose to fashion us, your own,
your handiwork of love.
Indeed, we are your hands' own work

and yet into our hands
you give the care
of every living thing.

In more ways than we can count
our work builds up
or tears apart what came
as gift from you.

Keep us faithful in preserving
all you've given
lest we harm the smallest part
of all you've made.

Give us good and honest work to do
and rest at each day's end.
Let a fair and good day's wage be paid
for a good day's work well done.

Give us work that nurtures and sustains
the ones who serve and those they serve.
Let those who labor work in peace,
in freedom, without fear.

Give those in need a job to do
and to the tired well earned rest.
Let all our work and toil, O God,
give glory to your name.
Amen. (Austin Fleming)
