Dear Families,
What a blessing it has been to serve as the principal at Holy Cross Regional Catholic School this year. We can celebrate success in every corner of our school. Our students are the finest in the area!
As I walked the elementary halls, I observed laughter and learning. The hallways were embroidered with art work and projects. These emerging scholars learned foundational skills in core academics. They were immersed in music, art, computers, library skills, PE and more. These young ones amazed us on stage and traveled out into the community to show our Gael pride.
The middle school was filled with young scholars and athletes who continued their paths to success. With academics becoming more challenging, we pushed these young people to reach their potential. Astounding us with Science Fair and Consumer Fair projects, these scholars took their talents even further when they dazzled us on stage with Willy Wonka. Filled with musicians, actors, scientists, mathematicians, writers, historians and athletes, our middle school is bursting with talent.
We just celebrated the graduation of our fine seniors, and each will head to a college or university in the fall. Our boast that Holy Cross is a college-prep school is proved once again in our 100% college placement. Our high school students are challenged and encouraged to take a rigorous class load to prepare them for their futures. Whether dissecting squid in Biology, visiting historical Gettysburg, learning high level math in AP courses or how to program a computer, our high school students gain the academic acumen to succeed at high levels.
Our success is quantified in our high standardized test scores which show Holy Cross students are some of the best in the nation. As we celebrate that high achievement, we take more pride in the sense of faith, service and fellowship that we instill in our young people. Through liturgies, retreats, prayer partners and religion class, we celebrated the power of the Holy Spirit within each of us. Holy Cross School is a true family with each member wanting the best for others and striving to live our Christian beliefs. Faith and values, Gael pride, strength in academics - we are blessed to have it all.
Thank you for entrusting your children with us this year. We will spend all summer preparing for their return to another wonderful experience at Holy Cross School!
God Bless,
Patti Culbreth
Principal

Meghann Hansen and William Loftus spent one week in Dallas,Texas at the National Forensic League Competition. Both participated in the first six rounds in the Public Forum category. They faced 256 teams in this category and represented Holy Cross well. Although they were not a part of the 60 teams that went on to the next round, they were tapped for additional opportunities. William participated in the Supplemental Debate for four rounds and Impromptu Debate segments. Meghann was selected to judge for the Junior National Forensics League and spent time working with top middle school debate students. Way to go William and Meghann! Thank you for representing Holy Cross at this National event.
SNEAKY WAY TO CHECK UP ON YOUR CHILDREN: It's never too early to think about volunteering your time in the cafeteria during lunch! If you can spare ONE DAY a month, please contact Patti Kese at pkcskc@aol.com. The kids love seeing their parents, and it's a great way to check out what your children are ordering for lunch :)
ATTENTION ALL HOLY CROSS STUDENT ATHLETES
Anyone interested in playing an interscholastic sport at Holy Cross during the 2011-2012 school year must have a completed physical form BEFORE trying out for their respective teams. No one can practice or try out without completion of this document. Physical forms are available in the high school office. If you have any questions, see Mr. Washington or Mr. Mitchell.
Accelerated Reader: . Mrs. Main will be available for students to come in and take Accelerated Reader quizzes a few times over the summer. These dates will be communicated through E- newsletters or e-mail. If you want to be sure to know the dates, send Mrs. Main an e-mail (main_h@hcrs-va.org) so that she can keep you informed. The complete A.R. list is on the website but hard copies are available in the office as well!
Elementary Summer Reading: If you have lost your copy of the elementary summer reading log and guidelines, stop by the office and pick up another! Thanks for encouraging your children to participate in our reading program. It's important that they take some time with all of their other activities to do this! I will be looking for help with our "Western day" reading celebration scheduled for September 7th: volunteers and people to donate refreshments/prizes. Send me an e-mail if you think you can help! (see address above)
