"Angaels" Aware . . . .
A few weeks ago, an alumnus, Carly Eccles Sheaffer, contacted Ms. Nessa requesting the Singing Angaels for an appearance at the Pearson Cancer Center. Carly is the Communication Liaison at Pearson. This was our second invitation and appearance there, the first being December 2010 to perform during the Festival of Trees. Mrs. Sheaffer was in Mrs. Shenigo's third grade a few years back and they enjoyed their "reunion" which was further ignited by the fact that Carly was in Willy Wonka (don't miss it May 27 and 28) under Mrs. Shenigo's direction. We are an academic institution and we are also ministers to hurting people. We had no idea the impact we'd leave when we agreed to perform on May 18th.
A note from Carly E. Sheaffer appears below:
They were a HIT. Oh my goodness, thank you so very much for taking the time to come to the cancer center. I heard from staff that the patients absolutely adored hearing their voices and the songs, as well as the many doctors, nurses and techs that work here. I'll be sure to write all the kids a thank you note, but I just wanted to let you know as soon as possible what a wonderful difference you made for folks that day. PS Tell Mrs. Shenigo for me that it was so wonderful to see her again as well. :)
And here's a comment from a volunteer who heard the Angaels:
Kids from Holy Cross came to Pearson Cancer Center on Wed. to sing...about 40 of them. They were wonderful!! I had to attend a conference (they called it) for volunteers which by the way was first class and was over in time to see/hear them sing at 12:20. Two neighbor kids were singing...the Guglielmetti kids and Dr. G was there to hear them.
What great feedback on our wonderful students at Holy Cross!
Baseball News!
Christopher Moreno (4th) and Jessa Moreno (2nd) were chosen to sing "Take Me Out To the Ball Game" at the Hillcats game Friday night. There were many Holy Cross families in attendance. Way to Go, Chris and Jessa!
NO AFTER SCHOOL STUDY HALL FOR MIDDLE OR HIGH STUDENTS FOR REMAINDER OF YEAR.
Parents of Middle School and High School Students,
We will not hold a study hall in the Media Lab beginning Monday, May 23 for the remainder of the school year. The study hall was developed to accommodate our athletes with a study period before practices. Now that sports have concluded, we ask that parents pick up their students at the end of the academic day. No open gym is planned directly after school, so students must get a ride home at the end of the academic day. If this causes a hardship, please know that our Day Care Program is open to families at a daily rate. Thank you for making the necessary arrangements for your student.
Flynn & O'Hara will have a new uniform sale on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. This is the only time they will be at our school before the fall session begins. Come see our new fleece jackets, fleece vests, as well as the new banded polo shirts (for Middle and High girls) AND new non-pleated pants! Buy items on the spot and/or order for August delivery.

Dear School Family,
This Sunday, in the gospel of John, Jesus encourages us with the words, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Have faith in God and have faith in me. You know the way that leads where I go." Having said this, Thomas, one of his apostles said, "Lord we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to Thomas, "I am the way, and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me."
These words of Jesus, I am the way and the truth and the life, have always held special significance for me as there have been times in my life and perhaps your own when I lost sight of the way! In fact, I tried to make it on my own or at least my own way. I am grateful to God for the relationship I have with his Son, Jesus and I know his presence in my life has lead me to know that I simply cannot do it alone. I also realize I do not have to! Those who have faith in Jesus will do the works that Jesus does. To believe in Jesus is to believe in what he represents and if we believe in what he represents then we too shall represent or imitate it. As we remain faithful to this last discourse of our Lord we strengthen our relationship with him. We also better realize the significance and reality of... "Otherwise, how could I have told you that I was going to prepare a place for you? I am indeed going to prepare a place for you, and then I shall come back to take you with me, that where I am you also may be."
As a school family, may we as adults continually model the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ so that our children/students might learn from our example. May we always turn to the Lord because we have come to believe that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life now and forever... Amen.
I take this opportunity to thank my good friend Clark Charlton for challenging me to lose some weight! Clark knows that I have a rather large frame and I did share with him that I have been on various diets since the 3rd grade! With this in mind and after some recent medical checks I had for heart and weight related concerns, Clark decided he would encourage me to drop a few pounds. For those of you who know Clark, his middle name is "challenge" because he always has one! Having said this, Clark pledged he would give the school, Annual Fund, a specified amount per pound for every pound I lose by the end of the fiscal year June 30th. He and I know my starting weight, which I prefer not ever telling anyone and together we will monitor how I do along the way. As a point of information, I began this "Charlton Challenge" about a month ago. Now although he is my friend, I will do all I can on behalf of the school to sock it to him!
God Bless You,
John P. Jones

I will also include study skills as an area of concentration for middle school. I will be at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00- 12:00. If you would like to arrange tutoring for your child, please phone me at school. At that time we can discuss details and make plans to assist your child.
