I am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever follows me will have the light of life. (Jn 8:12)
We cannot hide the success of Holy Cross stude
nts under a bushel - no! We must let it shine! This spring, our Holy Cross students participated in the Young Author's Competition. Our students won more than 50% of the city-wide awards and 32% of the regional awards. Our scholars prove their merit with these numbers and accolades.
We love to write at Holy Cross School, and we shine!

Our spring is filled with choral and drama productions,
kite flying, field trips, retreats, spring sports and more! Our students have shown leaps in learning, and our standardized test scores prove our abilities! Join us in our joyous hallways where the light of the Lord shines.
God Bless you and yours,
Patti Culbreth
A few reminders/thoughts from John Jones...
We continue to actively seek tax-deductible donations to this year's Annual Fund. We still have until June 30th to meet our goal for this year. We make our final quarter push at this time to help get us ever so much closer. Again, tuition and subsidies only cover about 70% of the school's cost to educate the children. We must raise the rest! While the Annual Fund is not necessarily a designated fund, it nonetheless remains a vital source of income for overall operations. We simply must do this each year. I realize many of you reading this are paying tuition and yet I do ask that you consider a contribution to the Annual Fund by June 30th. With God and all of us working together, we will make it work! You may make a contribution in person here at the school, mail it in or use your credit card. Give us a call at 847-5436.
The Grandparents' Day program scheduled for Friday May 6, 2011 is being planned now. We hope many of our grandparents will be able to attend. In fact, a grandparents' update form is enclosed in the brown envelope that came home this weekend. Please complete it and return it to school on Monday.
As we continue with the season of Lent, I encourage all of us to be diligent with our prayer life and devotion to God. I know in my own life and with that of my family, we often get caught up in the demands and challenges of day-to-day living. No doubt, with work, raising children and grandchildren, making ends meet in a tough economy and all else that comes from being fully human, we get stretched in many different directions. I believe, a part of what God asks us to do, particularly during Lent and within the Easter season, is to slow down, to be more reflective and to prioritize what truly is important. Perhaps we should ask, "Is what I'm doing what God wants me to do?" How in the midst of so many demands, do I find time to make God, prayer and the Gospel message a priority in my life and that of my family? I guess a part of what Lent and Easter truly calls us to do is to slow down a bit in that we might better hear His voice and discern His Holy Will. God wants nothing more than to bless us indeed, in fact to bless us abundantly. Our relationship with God should never be on the run and if we've become too busy to pray, then perhaps we've become too busy! Above all, may we always be mindful of what St. Peter so appropriately proclaims, "Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope!" Our hope is in JESUS!
In God's love,
John P. Jones

Birthday Bash Benefits Annual Fund
Brendan Dougherty, James Schubert, Noah Mata, Noah Golden, Colby Childers and Gabriel Siegenthaler had a birthday bash to celebrate turning 13 years old and in lieu of gifts, the boys asked for donations to the annual fund. At the end of the evening there was $211 in the donation box from their fellow middle school students and their families. It was a great party and a great cause!

Correction
In last week's edition of the E-Crossette, we thanked Father Kelly for his participation in the MS Etiquette dinner. We incorrectly listed Father Kelly's parish as Holy Name of Mary. Father is the pastor of St. Francis in Amherst.
