Dear Holy Cross School Family & Friends,
On Ash-Wednesday our school community began the season of Lent. How blessed we are here at Holy Cross School as that Wednesday morning we gathered in a liturgical and prayerful way to receive ashes and reflect upon the meaning and significance of Lent. In so doing, we became ever more mindful of how special Jesus is to all of us. Indeed, the gymnasium was filled with students, teachers, parents, grandparents, alumni and friends. As we continue with the Lenten season, let us be mindful that Lent is the liturgical season of forty days beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending with the celebration of the Paschal mystery in the Easter Triduum. It is a season that calls forth the best in us to be reflective and penitential and to be mindful of how much God loves us and of our need to love one another. Lent is a solemn season of the liturgical year that helps us to prepare for the mysteries of Easter. The forty days of Lent recall and re-visit the forty days Jesus spent in the desert in preparation for his public ministry. We recall the sacrifices Jesus made while preparing himself to begin and complete the mission and ministry asked of Him by His Heavenly Father. In the same manner, we too are challenged to make sacrifices during Lent as we prepare ourselves to receive Jesus in the Resurrection on Easter. We are called upon to renew ourselves through fasting, prayer and almsgiving. To this extent, I pray your Lenten time to date has been meaningful and renewing. May our school wide prayer be one of support and love for one another as we too share our journey with Jesus! "Together, let us persevere in the journey while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith." In God's love, John P.
