Academics With Honor (lockers with no locks).....a Holy Cross tradition |
Message from the Principal:
I am the vine; you are the branches ...
John 15:5 The colorful leaves remind us that fall is in the air, and
the crisp temperatures each morning are invigorating! That same energy
pervades the school building as we celebrate many activities and
accomplishments. William Loftus, National Merit Semifinalist, and Tanya Arthomsombat,
Commended National Merit Scholar, have set the bar high for other students in
the academic arena. Our athletes continue to enjoy successful seasons of
hard work and sportsmanship. Our community has enjoyed gathering together
for liturgies including the Blessing of the Animals. Our elementary students
have reveled on trips to the apple orchard and the National Park. The
school year is in full swing, and we are making a joyful noise!
HOLY CROSS IS BLESSED WITH GENEROUS DONATION! Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Rachel) Shenigo have blessed the
school with an extremely generous donation delivered to the Mrs. Culbreth on
Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Shenigo's children, Amy and Robert, as well as
their grandson, Michael, graduated from Holy Cross School. As many
of you know, their daughter-in-law, Ann Shenigo, is our fifth grade
teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Shenigo believe strongly in the value of Catholic
education and in the power of Holy Cross Regional Catholic School. Their donation will allow us to move
forward with renovations to our Media Lab as well as lead the way to an exciting future for Holy Cross! What a blessing! If you see Mr. and
Mrs. Shenigo, be sure to share your warm thanks with them.
Spirit Wear Day On Tuesday, October 12, Holy Cross will have a Spirit Wear Day to celebrate the hard work of our fall athletes and to show our school pride. On Tuesday, please wear your Holy Cross Spirit Wear or green and white to proudly show you are a Gael. Clothing choices should be appropriate for theschool day - shorts, like skirts, should be to the knee - no earrings forguys - and no body painting.
Remember, green and white on Tuesday, October 12!
New HC Literary Magazine Holy Cross is getting its own Literary Magazine, and you can help name
it!!! Anyone can offer a submission to help us to name our new
magazine. All submissions are due no later than October 29th! Parents,
students, teachers, and staff members are all welcome to submit their
best and most creative names!!!! Please give all submissions to one of the following people: Mrs.
St. Angelo, Stephen St. Angelo, Joe Bruzek, or your English Teacher! You can also send them via email: st.angelo_p@hcrs-va.org or pstangelo@yahoo.com
A Note from Farmbasket Please note that Tuesday we are celebrating Feed the Difference at lunch time: This promotion is an event that Meriwether Godsey & Farmbasket
embrace company-wide one day a year. While all of our accounts are able
to embrace sustainability initiatives to different degrees, on this one day
everyone in our company joins together in the spirit of raising awareness and
lightening our footprint by featuring local foods, less meat and seasonal
favorites in a special harvest meal!
ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Grant Thanks to the efforts of J. Cole Candler of Candler Oil Co.,
Holy Cross Regional Catholic School has been
awarded a $750 ExxonMobil Educational Alliance grant. The money will be
used to continue funding our efforts in science and math. Funded by the ExxonMobil
Corporation, the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program is designed to provide
ExxonMobil retailers like Candler Oil Co. with an opportunity to invest in the
future of their communities through educational grants to neighborhood schools.

Flu shot clinic is scheduled for Thursday, October 14th. Waiver form and checks
(payable to Central Virginia Family Physicians) for $25.00 are due to Montana
Gibson, Front desk, on or before Tuesday, October 12th. It's
convenient and less expensive than Kroger, CVS, and Walgreen

Students
and Families: Please
welcome and embrace the following international and exchange students. They are eager to learn about the American customs yet could be anxious,
nervous, and shy as they learn their way. A kind word, invitation to
share a meal, etc. would be a wonderful gesture. We
welcome: Caitlin
