22nd Annual Golf Tournament

September 14, 2012

What a great day we had for the 22nd Annual Chamber Golf Tournament. Thanks to those businesses who donated to our silent auction, the volunteers that helped, Tim Jarman and the staff at the golf course and of course to those golfers that came out to have fun and support the Chamber. Also a Big Thank you to our Golf Hole Sponsors ! We could not have done it without you.

Wayne Else and LaNeita Rehkop, owners of Paw Spaw Pet Grooming, grew up in the area and moved away for 10 plus years. About a year ago they moved back to the community. Wayne is a construction safety consultant working by private contractor. Neita has 10 years experience as a pet groomer.
"Neita's dream has always been to have her own shop," said Wayne. "So when we moved back a year ago, we did just that."
The new business, Paw Spaw, opened at 459 S. Thompson Ave., downtown, the first of July.
"We have only been open for one month and we have met many members of the community. We have had a very optimistic and positive attitude from everybody," said Wayne.
The couple joined the Chamber in June to become an active part of the business community.
"We look forward to becoming a vibrant and growing business, participating in community events as volunteers and offering discounted and/or free services for a good cause," said Wayne. Stop by and welcome the new business owners to Excelsior Springs. For services call 816-900-1030.

Business of the Month -

Dawn's Light Classes & Write On Publishers

This is an exciting month for Dawn's Light Classes and Write On Publishers to be named Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month. September 14 saw the release of owner Jean Leonard's new book Ancient People of Missouri and Kansas, and in October is the four-week class "Ancient People of Missouri and Kansas" and the four week class "Act in South Wind (Kansas)," a play by Leonard.
With a business goal of bridging cultures, classes are held each April and October. On Mondays, October 1, 8, 15, and 22 (7 p.m.) attendees will trace the ancient people through the ice age (spear points have been found in mastodon bones) through to the coming of the Europeans and ending with the modern tribes of Missouri and Kansas. Since many ancient campsites (due to the stability of the Fishing River area) were found and are now being carefully preserved in the Excelsior Springs area, it is a great place to hold the class.
