The Enneagram: HOW TYPE IMPACTS SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE with HELEN PALMER, SHARON BERBOWER, and NINE PANELS OF SPEAKERS
It is a common experience to leave a retreat feeling calm and receptive, only to find that life back home is as problematic as ever. So what is the interface between personal and spiritual experience? And can these two states of mind be reconciled, rather than attend to one while bypassing the other?
The Enneagram strikes an historic note in the modern quest for psycho/spiritual balance. Originally conceived as a map of cognitive/emotional barriers to spiritual experience, the 9 pointed Diagram in use today is directly linked to the commentaries of Evagrius, a 4th century monk who codified the impediments to practice reported by his fellow contemplatives.
Working from the ancient motif of 9 planetary Archetypes and steeped in Pythagorean geometry, Evagrius mapped the logismoi – patterns of invading thoughts – and their supporting passions. That map - produced by the self-reflections of men and women committed to practice – has stood the test of time.
Panels are a modern version of collective practice discussions between different types of people. Our line of questioning is focused on the interface between the horizontal world of love and work played out in daily living, and practice obstacles in the vertical ascent of consciousness. Panelists will be experienced in a variety of meditative disciplines. Please expect a short didactic on the structure of type, an attention practice, the panel interview plus Q and A with the speakers.
Helen's also giving a lecture at CIIS on Thursday, February 16, from 7pm – 9pm called, "THE ENNEAGRAM OF NON-DUALITY," also open to the public. Click here for more information or to register.
