Emmett |
Emmett is a super-sweet 1 or 2 year old Retriever-Border Collie mix. He was recently rescued from the North Carolina shelter on his last day. Emmett had been caught as a stray, but no one had come to claim him. This boy is a dreamboat! He is really gentle and affectionate, and he is wonderful with dogs of all sizes and older children, too. Sorry, don't know about kitties. Emmett sits for every-thing, walks nicely on a leash and rides quietly in the car. He is generally an easy-going dog who will lie down and settle without prompting. He loves walks and toys, but mostly, he loves being with his human! Emmett weighs about 50 lbs. |
You can find out more about Emmett and our other dogs by giving us a call at 310-860-0171 or sending us an e-mail or visiting Bill Foundation.

The Chicken Runs at Midnight |
Since we are now in the midst of another World Series clash, I would like to share this incredible true story that unfolded over the course of two World Series between 1992 and 1997. You wouldn't believe it unless you heard it from the man it happened to, Rich Donnelly. So I am going to back out at this point and encourage you to watch this video that will prove once again that truth is stranger than fiction and that there are things that happen to us on this earth that we will never understand. After viewing this, if anyone has a rational explanation for what happened, please contact me and let me know! One final warning: you may need a handkerchief to get through this very touching story about a loving father who lost a teenage daughter. |

Close Up: The Bill Foundation
The Bill Foundation
I am very proud of my sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Peter Forman, who are responsible for the "Pup of the Week" rescues that we feature in each newsletter. Below is an article that was featured in "The Huffington Post" about their work and above is an award winning video that was produced about their volunteers.
From "The Huffington Post":
When their rescue Golden Retriever/Labrador mix, Bill, lost his battle to cancer in August of 1998, Jo and Peter Forman channeled their grief into something positive. They created the Bill Foundation in 2000 to focus on rescuing dogs from high kill shelters in order to place them in loving homes. Administrative director of the Bill Foundation Kim Sullivan acknowledges that it's possible to get discouraged in her line of work. She explains, "tens of thousands of dogs are euthanized each year because there is no room to keep them," and points out that volunteers are often faced with the tragedy of only being able to rescue a small portion of dogs from shelters. That's why the Bill Foundation has adopted the motto "dog by dog," and commits itself to rescuing as many dogs as possible from overcrowded city and county shelters throughout Los Angeles. So far, the foundation has been able to place an average of one dog every other day in a new home. Sullivan notes that "every dollar contributed brings us closer to the day when no dogs are left behind to be euthanized." Relying entirely on donations and the help of volunteers who foster the animals, the foundation has anywhere from thirty to fifty dogs available for adoption at any given time. In the future, the Bill Foundation's goal is to open up a large shelter or sanctuary for these animals, so that they can increase their numbers of saved animals.

Bill Foundation Dogs will be on TV in early November on "the Doctors". A segment in which their panel discussed the health benefits of adopting a rescued dog is scheduled and our segment will be hosted by Jillian Michaels (of Biggest Loser fame). |
