CENTS 2011 Plus My 2 Cents
Ironically, with Ground Hog Day staring us in the face, this newsletter is starting to sound a lot like Ground Hog Day (the movie), where Bill Murray has to re-live the same day over and over. I have been to three trade shows this winter, and everywhere I go, the mood and the message is the same: things are looking up for the coming year! And guess what. I'm really not getting tired of hearing it, so bring it on!
Had a wonderful time at CENTS in lovely, snow covered
Columbus, OH last week. There is nothing like a good tradition to keep a little stability and sanity in your life. So if it's deep January, then it's time for me to be setting up for the CENTS Show on Sunday, so I can earn the right to later trudge across the street to Barley's and watch the playoffs while munching on the best Buffalo Wings on the planet. Who could ask for more!
Another trade show tradition is getting together with friends after hours and sharing the tall tales that stack up over the years. Like the time I came within a whisker of being thrown in the pokey when a cop accosted me for Jay Walking at 12:30 am as I crossed Broad Street against the light with not a vehicle in sight for MILES and with the temperature hovering around four below. Is it just the Georgia boy in me, or was that a reasonable thing to do in that situation?
Well, my friend Doug Boyd (The Maine Bucket Company and
Bench Systems) topped that one. Doug and two friends actually WERE BOOKED for Jay Walking, about a block away from the same spot and were FINED $86 each! I guess they don't have any real criminals in Columbus, OH. So whatever you do when you visit Columbus, be sure to wear a bullet proof vest if you dare to cross the street against the light! These guys are serious. As my pal, Karen Kemp-Docksteader says, "You can't make this stuff up". Well, something like that...
Here are just a few of the photographs from CENTS. You can see many more (maybe even one of you?) by clicking here. Lots of photos so it may take a minute or two to load.
Now it's time to head out for New England Grows in Boston, Feb 2-4. Please stop by and say hello!
