Dear CIS Families:

As we continue our journey in implementing the International Baccalaureate program, I encourage you to visit www.ibo.org and learn more about what the philosophy and teaching of this program means for your child's future.  Plus learn how you can support your child's learning at home.

This month we are continuing to focus on the IB Learner Profile of being an inquirer.  Please click on this link to read: INQUIRERS AT THE LIBRARY

Please take the time to read the information below regarding picture day and an opportunity to see our precious Che Fox perform at the New Mexico State Fair.

Also please come by the school and sign our petition to be reauthorized as a charter school before September 26th.  We need at least 75% of our families to sign the petition.

Thank you for all you do for our school and students.
Have a great week.

Respectfully,
Dr. Elsy Diaz
Head of School
 PICTURE DAY IS TUESDAY!
Please click here for the digital flyer
Each parent that adds proofing will receive an email screen shot (low res, but big enough to see) of 2-4 of your child's best images. You can choose between those images or to do retakes.  If you do not choose proofing, but know you want prints from retakes instead of the original Picture Day, you must email the photographer, Kira, within 3 days (by the end of work day Friday.)  (Examples of this would be that your child forgot and wore their uniform when they didn't intend to, etc.)  Of course all absent students will be able to take retakes.

Please click on the link above to get the digital flyer and more information!
PTA WANTS YOU!
to volunteer

If you are planning on volunteering in your child's classroom or attending fieldtrips, please be aware that APS requires all school volunteers to pass a background check. The PTA will reimburse for the cost of the background check for the next 25 parents who sign up! Here's what you'll need to do:
Stop at the front desk and pick up a background check form from Miss Patti, and get a yellow PTA Reimbursement form located on the PTA bulletin board. It must be the yellow form.
Fill out the Background check form and take it to the APS main office. Pay for the cost of the background check ($12) and make sure you get a receipt.
Bring your receipt back to CIS, along with your completed yellow PTA reimbursement, and the cost will be reimbursed.
Remember this is only for the next 25 parents who fill out a yellow reimbursement form, so act quickly!
And if you are not yet a PTA member, pick up a membership form and pay the $6 to join!  The $6 membership fee will get you PTA membership and a free background check!

Three For Me

Volunteering in the schools has proven to improve student performance in significant, measurable ways. Recently the National PTA has adopted a voluntary program started by an elementary school PTA, called PTA Three For Me. By pledging to your child that you will volunteer 3 hours, over the course of the entire year (although you can continue to volunteer as many hours as you would like past the first three), you will help out tremendously; a little help from a lot of hands goes a very long way!!
Corrales International School PTA decided to initiate this program this school year to increase volunteering, while giving volunteers the comfort pf knowing that they can say "no" after contributing just three hours of their time.
Increasingly, a lot of work falls on the shoulders of fewer people. Consequently, we have quite a few Committee positions run by the same people for several years now. We invite and welcome new involvement and fresh ideas (in fact there are still some Committee
positions waiting to be filled this year.)
By giving the school, PTA, and your child just a few hours of your time, you can help SO MUCH! Please be on the look out for more information regarding this program in the next few weeks.
Thanks,
Tonia Padilla

PTA Extended Family Services (EFS)

What is the Extended Family Services Program?

The Extended Family Services Program assists families from our school community who struggle to meet their most basic needs for safe, stable housing, warmth in the winter, and sufficient, nutritious food. The Extended Family Services program (EFS) helps families in crisis by providing food and clothing and referrals to appropriate community services, and can offer limited emergency cash assistance to help prevent utility shut-off and/or housing eviction.

The ultimate goal of EFS is to maximize needy children's readiness to learn, by helping minimize the stress caused by economic deprivation and by preventing disruptions in education caused by chronic and cyclical homelessness

A word to families who would like to give help: The school's food pantry and uniform closet can always use donations . If you would like to donate, we accept healthy, non-perishable food items, uniform shirts and pants. Please bring all items for donation to the front office. Thank you for your continued generosity! It makes a big difference for our community and for the families needing help.

A word to families needing help: If you have or may soon have an eviction or utility shut-off notice or another financial crisis, or if you would like help accessing clothing and food banks and other community services and resources, please consult with Dr Diaz. All help will be given confidentially and respectfully.

YEARBOOK/PHOTOGRAPHY
Parents of children who are interested in being in the Yearbook/photography club must contact their child's teacher and request that they refer them for the club. We
will be beginning Yearbook/Photography club on Thursday, September 28th and will be having a photography
workshop with Kira, our school photographer, this Tuesday, September 18th.  NEWSPAPER Club is also invited to this workshop!
We want students who are truly interested, willing to commit and participate in club where we will practice and do photography as well as design and create the CIS yearbook. Having a camera is definitely a plus - but not a requirement.
