Dear CIS Families,
We had an exciting week. We had aliens running around all over our school. Thank you to all the students and parents who worked so hard on their hats, hair, shoes/socks, shirt, and pajamas.
I hope you have a wonder Winter Break and are able to relax and enjoy the time with your family.
See you next Year!

CHANGES IN OUR OFFICE
We will have some staff changes in our office personnel when we return after Winter Break. Our Business Manager, Emily Williams will not be returning after the Winter Break. Some of you may recall that Ms. Willams took over as our Business Manager during some difficult financial issues at our school. Through her leadership we were able to resolve our financial issues and now we are financially sound. I know you join me in wishing her well and thanking her for all her hard work and dedication to our school.
Our new Business Manager is Diane Gunn Miles who has 6 years experience as a school business manager. So our finances will be in good hands.
Tara Armijo Prewitt will assume the role of Office Manager after our Winter Break. She will continue to coordinate our lunch program, purchases, invoices, and other account payables.
Replacing Ms. Armijo-Prewitt as receptionist will be another of our outstanding parents, Patti Brainard. Ms. Brainard has an extensive background in business and is looking forward to working in our school and becoming part of our terrific staff. | | |

KUDOS!
Thanks to the hard-working 8th graders and all of the wonderful families who brought their kids to the Movie Afternoon yesterday, we raised $160 for Joy Junction. Their volunteer coordinator visited CIS this afternoon to pick up the money and talk to the students about this organization.
Congratulations to Nicolette Jones, 8th grade, for competing in the National Junior Olympic Cross Country Meet in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Dec. 10th. She had a great showing representing New Mexico!
One of our CIS 5th grade students, Erin Beaudet, is performing this weekend as one of the members of the UNM Children's Chorus! The Santa Fe Opera and UNM School of Fine Arts have embarked on a joint production of a new children's opera. "Shoes for the Santo Niņo", based on the children's story by Peggy Pond Church. This opera is being performed at the National Hispanic Cultural Center here in Albuquerque this weekend, December 16th-18th and it will also be performed in Santa Fe on January 6th & 7th. The Santo Niņo is an important part of both Native American and the Hispanic traditions. People pray to the Santo Niņo for healing, mainly of children, and devoted pilgrims frequently leave children's shoes at his shrines. Many believe that he wears the shoes out at night when he goes walking secretly visiting children while they are asleep in order to heal them. A famous shrine to the Santo Niņo is close by and is located in Chimayo, New Mexico. This is wonderful story involving some of the culture and traditions of New Mexico.
FROM MISS KATIE--Basketball season has come and gone. I cannot believe it! Thank you players and parents for your patience, understanding and support throughout the season. It was the best first season a coach could ask for! I feel the girls this year did a wonderful job and made tremendous progress throughout the season. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed our first season together. The girls showed great sportsmanship, effort and desire to learn each and every game and practice. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope everyone enjoys their holiday break and enjoys their time spent together. We will be having a get together after the break. I will keep everyone posted! See everyone next year!
FROM MR.VOLPE
Congratulations to the CIS JV boys basketball team for a very successful season! The boys ended the season with a winning record and made the playoffs for the first time. The team demonstrated a high level of skill, dedication and sportsmanship all season long. Keep practicing boys, next season will be here before you know it!
