Dear CIS Families,
Parent involvement at school and at-home discussions which explore and develop in your child the learner profiles help make CIS a success!
If you have not had a chance to check out the International Baccalaureate Organization ( IBO.org) website, please take a minute to learn more about the IB approach.
IB learners strive to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective.
The learner profile for this month is INQUIRER.
Please make it a point to ask your child, "What question did you ask today?"
Encourage your child's interests and help them learn how to ask questions to gain new knowledge and perspective by modeling this behavior for your child.
Talk to your child about the various sources of information and how to figure out which ones are trustworthy sources, especially when searching on the internet.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
At CIS, we recognize that one of the best predictors of academic success is parent involvement. We encourage each of you to become involved through our active PTA, as classroom volunteers, and through our many events held throughout the year. Events such as the Jog-a-thon and International Day bring our community together both for fun and in support of school priorities.
Classroom Parent
Be a classroom parent and help your child's teacher! Contact your child's teacher directly if you are interested! School Advisory Committee If you are interested in becoming involved now, our School Advisory Committee (SAC) is recruiting volunteer representatives. The SAC collaborates with the head administrator on many aspects of the school's management and processes. Each grade will have a representative that maintains contact with parents from that grade, lets them know what is being discussed and seeks input. Please contact Tara Armijo-Prewitt at [email protected] or 304.0672 if you are interested. Sponsor an After School Club! This year's clubs will include chess, soccer, building with legos, drama, bugs, scrapbooking, newspaper, sewing, battle of the books, among other offerings. If you'd like to sponsor a club either before or after school, please contact Tara at [email protected] or 304-0672. We are actively seeking a volleyball coach, a yearbook sponsor, and a Imagination Destination co-sponsor! Volunteer in the Classroom Check with your child's teacher to see how you can help! PTA Join our PTA! Teachers, staff and families come together to support the International School mission. The support we receive from each of you is invaluable. |

Kid's Food Pantry
Hello CIS families! It is the beginning of a new school year, and a great time to think of others who need our assistance. We have kids who sometimes don't have a lunch or may not have had breakfast. Please consider helping our community and donate items (that are ready to eat) for the Kid's Food Pantry. We need healthy items (no chips, candy bars or ramen noodles). Some suggestions are:
Lunchables or similar packaged cold lunches
Yogurt
Cheese
Fruit cups
Jell-O cups
Pudding cups
Soup cups
Quick microwaveable meals
Granola bars
Single serve, shelf stable, milk
Single serve cereal cups
Single serve Macaroni & Cheese cups
We also greatly appreciate the donation of items to make healthy meals. Some suggestions are:
- Spaghetti dinner: pasta & pasta sauce
- Chicken casserole: egg noodles, onion, cheddar cheese, canned chicken, 2 condensed cream of mushroom soups, can sliced mushrooms, potato chips
- Sandwiches: loaf of bread, peanut butter, jelly
- Pancakes: box of pancake mix, pancake syrup
Thank you for your generosity! Please contact Karen Grending with any questions: 463-6801.
