Dear CIS Families:

We had a terrific start to our new school year. Look for weekly updates from your child's teacher to keep up with what your child is learning.

We have a new phone system at our school, please listen closely to the options and follow the prompts to reach the appropriate line.  Our teachers' lines will go directly to voicemail so class time is not interrupted. To reach our receptionist, Tara Armijo-Prewitt, please press 0 (zero).

 International Baccalaureate (IB) Program

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program promotes the education of the whole person -emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge, thus preparing the children to face this ever changing world with confidence.

To further enhance the learning experience, the International Baccalaureate Program curriculum (Program of Inquiry) provides interdisciplinary activities to develop actions and attitudes along with concepts and skills to ensure learning is relevant, engaging and challenging.

These actions and attitudes are listed in the IB Learner Profile. The IB Program of Inquiry (Curriculum) supports the children to acquire the skills of the IB Learner Profile and become knowledgeable, inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, to be principled, caring, open - minded, balanced and reflective.  Each Back Pack Express, will review an IB Learner Profile with some ideas for parents to help children develop the skills of the IB Learner Profile at home.

The learner profile for this month is INQUIRER.

Please make it a point to ask your child, "What question did you ask today?"

Students who are INQUIRERS are curious about the world. They can conduct research independently. They love learning and discovering new things and will carry this love of learning with them throughout life. How can parents help to develop students who are Inquirers at home?

ˇ Encourage areas of your child's interest by visiting the library to borrow books that explore these topics.

ˇDevelop an understanding of the Internet. Work with your son or daughter when the Internet is being used and try to instill the understanding that some Internet sites are not reputable.

ˇModel being an inquirer. Admit when you don't know the answer to a problem or a question and seek out answers in front of your child.

Parent Drop-off/Pick-up

Some things to keep in mind are:

  1. These procedures were developed to keep all our students safe.
  2. All students are dismissed through the playground.  Please do not go to your child's classroom during dismissal.
  3. Cross only where Ms. Beaudet is with the stop sign.  PLEASE wait for her to help you cross.
  4. DO NOT cross behind her, please make sure she acknowledges you and stops traffic.
  5. Students may be dropped off or picked-up only in the designated lane
  6. Once you choose to use the drop-off/pick-up area you cannot back out or drive around.
  7. If you use the drop-off/pick-up area you must stay in your car.
  8. If you prefer you can park in the designated areas and walk your child.
  9. If you are not within the drop-off/pick-up area you will need to wait.
  10. Only cars within the drop-off/pick-up area will be able to pick-up or drop-off students.
  11. If you have students needing assistance with their booster seats, you may want to park and walk your child.  The drop-off/pick-up lane needs to maintain a continuous flow.
  12. You cannot drop/pick up your student(s) in the front of the school, during the times of 7:45-8:30 a.m. or 2:50-3:45 p.m. Please use the back parking lot.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL DAY PROCEDURES

 IMPORTANT SCHOOL DAY PROCEDURES

♦ Before School Drop off/After School Pickup: All parents are asked to drop off/pickup students through the rear entrance of the school located on Midway Park Blvd.  Please do not drop students off in the front entrance during these times. The Front Parking Lot will be closed between 7:45 a.m.- 3:40 p.m.

We request that you confirm all arrangements for after school pickup with your child before school.  If there are any changes, please notify the teacher in the morning with a note.  Please keep in mind that it is difficult for office staff to remember or convey messages to your child or his/her teacher during the day.

Be sure to write a note to your child's teacher if a midday pick up is planned. Please sign your child out at the front desk.

♦ School Day Visits: All parents/visitors arriving between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.must sign in at the reception desk, indicate scheduled appointment destinations, and obtain a name tag.

♦ Parking: Parents/visitors may park in spaces at the back of the school through the entrance located on Midway Park Blvd.  When space is unavailable, please use caution when parking along the side of the road. Always park off the road to the right as far as possible and do not block driveways or the street.

∗
Communicating With Teachers: To communicate or set up an appointment with teachers please write a note or send an email directly.  Email addresses are listed on the CIS website  in the 'Staff' section under 'About US'.

Reporting Absences: If your child will be absent, please call the school at 505-344-9733 and state your child's name, teacher's name, the date and reason for the absence.  Please listen carefully for this menu option.

∗ Lunch Information: All students must bring lunch.

∗ Snacks: In addition to lunch, you may choose to pack a healthy snack and water for your child each day. Water will help us maintain a clean classroom environment. Snacks may be eaten in the morning for those with a late lunch and in the afternoon for those with an early lunch.

Kindergarten families take turns providing heathy, appropriate snacks for the whole class.  Maestra Gaby Escobedo will hand out a snack schedule each month.

∗ Games/Electronic Devices/Cell Phones: Due to the risk of loss, damage, and disruption to the learning environment, the use of these items during the school day is strongly discouraged. Students are encouraged to engage in social interactions with their peers during lunch and recess.   If games and electronics are brought to school, they will be confiscated and parents will need to pick them up from the head administrator.  Cell phones may not be used during school hours and must be in backpacks at all times.
