Dear CIS Families:
I want to thank all the hard work the PTA auction comittee did for our auction this weekend. Through their hard work and the contributions of students and their parents, the auction was a success. Though this is a one day event, it takes the entire school year to prepare for the auction. Thank you Auction Committee and Monet Caldwell-Silva for your leadership and support of our school.
Our participation in the Run for the Zoo was also a success. We were recognized for having over 120 registrations and we received a nice commerative bannner for our school. Though the weather was cold, I was so proud to see so many our students participating in all the events.
This week we also thank teachers, it is national Teacher Appreciation. Please take the time to stop by and thank your child's teacher for their work with our students. We have some of the most talented teachers at our school and we want to make sure they know we appreciate all their efforts.
I hope you have a terrific week and don't forget to come by the school to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with us on Thursday.
Respectfully,
Dr. Elsy Diaz

GARAGE SALE
The CIS 4th Annual Garage Sale is fast approaching!
This year's sale will be held at the home of Bruce and Tammy Spatz in Corrales on May 20-21.
Spring Cleaning is the perfect time to find unused items to donate.
If you have items ready that you would like us to store until the sale, please contact Carrie Dabau at cdabau@q.com or 480-620-2056.
In May, we will accept drop-offs in Corrales and arrange some pick-up days at the school. We would greatly appreciate any pricing that you can do ahead of time...this is a big job!
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Tammy Spatz at tamspatz@gmail.com or 508-2564. We need help with pricing, advertising/signs, food and working the sale.
All items left after the sale will be donated to Clothes Helping Kids. If you have tables or clothing racks to lend, please let us know!
Last year's sale brought in $2150 with only a couple dozen families participating.
IF EVERY FAMILY WERE TO DONATE JUST ONE BAG OR BOX OF ITEMS, WE'D HAVE A HUGE SALE!!
Thank you in advance for your help!
"We are in desperate need of folding tables, hanging racks, and hangers for the garage sale. We could also use some portable shade canopies. You can drop them off in Corrales or arrange to have them picked up at the school. Please label the racks, canopies and tables with your name and number. Contact tamspatz@gmail.com." |

Students in grades K-6th will not need to make up snow days since they attend one-hour of school more than required by the New Mexico Public Education Department(NMPED). Students in K-6th grade are required to attend 5 1/2 hours of school and our students attend school for 6 1/2 hours (not counting 30 minutes for lunch). As a result, the last day of school for students in grades K-6th will be May 27th.
This is not the case for students in grades 7th - 8th grade. Students in 7th - 8th grade are required by the NMPED to attend 6 hours of school. Our students attend 6 1/2 hours (not counting 30 minutes for lunch). Therefore, students in 7th -8th grade will need to make up only 14 hours of school. Our middle school students will make up these 14 hours on May 31 and June 1st. Ms. Carrillo and Mr. Johnson will provide further information to the middle school parents and their students.

Are you an Intel Employee? Are you aware of the following matching grant programs for volunteers?
1. Intel Involved Matching Grant Program
The Intel Involved Matching Grant Program is a key adjunct of the Intel Involved Program. The program awards cash grants to schools and non-profit/non-governmental organizations world-wide based on the number of hours Intel employees volunteer. It is designed to engage employees in community outreach and recognizes their passion to donate their time and offer their skills to support the communities where they live and work. After a minimum of 20 hours has been accrued by Intel employees volunteering at a school or qualified nonprofit organization, a donation or "match " will be triggered from the Intel Foundation. The grant is paid by Intel once a year, and hours must be reported by January 15 for the previous year. Currently the grant rate is $200.00 for 20 hours of volunteering, and $10.00 for each hour after the initial 20.
* Employees of Intel need to access Intel Involved, and click on the "report hours" link to report hours for credit. CIS is already in the system.
2. Matching Gifts to Education Program
Intel currently matches 50% of donations made to a qualified non-profit. Information about this program is also accessed through Circuit. CIS is already in the system for this program also.
