Dear CIS Families:
On behalf of the CIS staff I would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday season. This week went by like a whirlwind.
I hope your children enjoyed the dress-up days and the fun learning activities that our terrific teachers provided for them. We know students are excited the week before a long break from school, so we love to create learning opportunities for them that are fun and create memories. Creating memories is what this type of week provides for our students in addition to learning.
Many of us don't remember specific learning in any of our grade levels we attended but we do remember the sounds and excitement of being able to dress-up or sing songs on these special days before a long break from school.
I know that many of you will be creating wonderful memories with your children during our two weeks of winter break. I hope you take some time for yourselves to re-energize for our second half of the school year. We need all of you participating in our many school activities.
So get ready to volunteer and continue participating in our school! Remember we can't do it without you.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Elsy Diaz
Head Administrator

WHAT IS A FAMILY SCIENCE NIGHT?
A Family Science Night is an evening program of hands-on science activities offered by Sandia National Labs that provides an opportunity for children and their parents to work together to conduct simple, inquiry-based, age-appropriate science activities. There are two primary goals:
- Stimulate an excitement and interest in science among school children and their parents.
- Get parents involved in the educational process.
Research shows that children with parents involved in their education perform at higher levels than those children whose parents are not involved. Surveys also indicate that parents pass to their children their own attitudes toward science and mathematics. Family Science Nights offer an opportunity to involve parents and children in fun science discoveries.
We have been lucky enough to reserve a Family Science Night event here at CIS on January 11, 2011 at 6pm. Mark your calendars to attend this night of fun!

Please keep in mind some of these safety precautions to keep our students safe. Also, please observe the stop sign (left side) when you are driving through our parking lot.
Mornings
Parents if you need to drop-off your child before 8:15 a.m. you must have him/her attend the before school program. Before care is located in Ms. Gaby Escobedo's classroom. There is no one else available to supervise your child. Children of all ages can not be left unattended.
Pick-up and Drop-off
- Students cannot be picked up after 3:20 from their classrooms.
- All students will be dismissed at 3:30 from the pick-up/drop-off area (Midway Blvd. entrance).
- Since we have 70 more students this school year, some of you may choose to park on Midway Blvd. and walk to get your children from the pick-up area.
- CROSS WALK. Please allow us to help you cross the parking lot. We have too many cars exiting plus the bus.
- Please be aware that there is a STOP sign in the parking lot to allow pedestrians to cross.
- Students not picked up by 3:40 will be taken to the Aftercare Program by their teacher. There is a charge for Aftercare service.
We ask that you abide by these safety precautions. Remember, your children are watching you and learning from your actions. |
We have started a food pantry to provide a healthy lunch for those students that forget their lunch or are not able to bring a lunch to school. Additionally, we would like to start collecting food for families that are in need. There will be a box by the front desk to collect canned or dried goods.
The following items are needed for student lunches:
- instant macaroni and cheese, instant noodles and other soups
- fruit cups, dried fruit, real fruit leather, cheese crackers, granola bars, boxed 100% juice, single serve pastas, pretzels etc
Please contact Anna Prewitt at annaprewitt@gmail.com for more information on how you can help make sure all of our kids get lunch!

LOST AND FOUND
There are many items in the lost and found area. Please ask your child/ren to look for their items. ALL items not picked up by the end of each month will be taken to Goodwill.
PLEASE LABEL ALL YOUR CHILD'S BELONGINGS. Perhaps this will reduce the amount of items in our lost and found area.
