Dear CIS Families:
We have gotten off to a great start.  This past week we began our weekly Brain Gym exercises with all our students on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.   Our terrific middle schoolers will be leading our school in these exercises in the coming weeks.  Yay!!! Mid-Schoolers!!!

Our teachers in grades K-5 began their first IB Units this week around the theme of How We Organize Ourselves.  Following is a listing of the central idea each classroom is focusing on in this unit:

IB Learner Profile for August: Caring
Through Caring, students develop empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. They have a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.

Activities for parents
Role model the caring behavior you would like to see in your child all the time. Children notice everything you do.   Using kind words, helping people without being asked, being an active listener, all show your child that you care about people. Even a simple thing, like holding the door for someone, shows your child that you are aware of others and want to help them.
STUDENT SAFETY

Please keep in mind some of these safety precautions to keep our students safe.
  1. Students cannot be picked up after 3:20 from their classrooms.
  2. All students will be dismissed at 3:30 from the pick-up/drop-off area (Midway Blvd. entrance).
  3. Since we have 70 more students this school year, some of you may choose to park on Midway Blvd. and walk to get your children from the pick-up area.
  4. Please be aware that there is a STOP sign in the parking lot to allow pedestrians to cross.
  5. Students not picked up by 3:40 will be taken to the Aftercare Program by their teacher.  There is a charge for Aftercare service.
We ask that you abide by these safety precautions.  Remember, your children are watching you and learning from your actions.
Room Parents
Now that the school year has begun, each class will need a room parent! Please contact our volunteer coordinators, Tara Armijo-Prewitt (tprewitt@gmail.com) or Anna Prewitt (annaprewitt@gmail.com) if you are interested in volunteering!  Carolyn Miney has volunteered to be the Kindergarten room parent.  Tonia Padilla has volunteered to be the Second grade room parent.   The following grades need room parents 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th.  Please consider volunteering.  You are needed!
