Dear CIS Families:
We are gearing up for another terrific school year. Please keep checking our school website: www.corralesinternationalschool.org and our FACEBOOK page for updated information regarding important dates, supply lists, and dress code. Through our dedication to preserving our environment and resources, you will receive less paper this school year, so keep checking the website and our FACEBOOK page.
The school is still buzzing with summer school and some remodeling for our school library/media center. I know you will be pleased with the results. Hope your summer is going well and you are enjoying these days with your children. Believe me, they do grow up too fast.

The PTA Aftercare Program budget was approved and we welcome Rhea Martinez as our new Aftercare provider!!! Please read her letter below.
I am very excited to be running the permaculture and sustainability-based after- school program this school year. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term permaculture, it is a set of techniques and principals used to design systems that mimic nature, using minimal energy and resources to sustain them.) We will be doing lots of gardening activities, caring for animals, earth-friendly art projects, nutritious food preparation, environmental education projects, community service and even some fun and enlightening field trips. The program will foster an appreciation for the natural environment, a sense of responsibility for the community, an understanding of where our food comes from, and the knowledge required for making wise food choices. I have an undergraduate degree in Ecology and Environmental Biology and a Masters in Natural Resources. I have worked in South America (where I was a Peace Corps Volunteer) and in Africa, training people in community-based agriculture and forestry-related projects, and studied traditional Native American farming practices on the Bad River Reservation in northern Wisconsin. I coordinated three courses in Permaculture Design and had the opportunity to meet and learn from two renowned Australia-based Permaculture Instructors, Geoff Lawton and Darren Doherty. I also recently completed the Climate Master program through the NM Environment Department, and am eager to use the information I learned in the program to help students gain the skills necessary to reduce their own carbon footprints. I look forward to working with your children soon! Rhea Martinez

Being our first year, there is a limited supply of recycled
uniforms. These will be distributed on a first come/first serve basis,
and we will only be able to give out one shirt per student. We also
have a few long sleeve polos (x-small and small) and sweaters (small
only) available.
We do however have plenty of pants, shorts, and skorts that
will be available the week before school starts. We will collect
outgrown clothes the entire school year. Please direct all questions
regarding the CIS Uniform Closet to Rianne at [email protected] or call her at
803-3125 if you would like one of the shirts. |
PTA is a great way to stay involved in your child's school. At a small school such as ours every hand is needed and appreciated! Please contact Anna Prewitt to become a member!
We hope to see you at the next meeting, August 17 at 6 pm!
