Dear Investor,

 

The first half of 2011 has been a challenging time for our state, our country and other nations around the world. Nevertheless, our team continues to approach each day with great optimism, hard work, courage and unbridled dedication to our mission, vision and the community we serve. 

 

I am very proud to serve this organization, thankful for each and every member of our team, and appreciative of the partnership we have with you as we mutually take action to transform Greater Madison into the Best place in the Midwest for everyone to live, learn and work. 

 

On behalf of our Board of Directors, staff and many volunteers, I submit to you our FY2011 Second Quarter Performance Report.

OUR VISION

 

To make Greater Madison the "Best [place] in the Midwest" for everyone to live, learn and work by 2020.

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR RESULTS 

 

  • Schools of Hope Tutoring Program. Recruited 962 volunteers; 1,918 different students across 19 middle and high schools across Dane County. For more information, click here. 
  • Madison Preparatory Academy for Young Men. Commenced contract negotiations with the Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education. For more information, click here
  • Workforce Training Programs. Trained and provided job coaching to 343 adults; 43% have achieved employment thus year. For more information, click here.
  • Workplace Diversity & Leadership Summit and Awards Luncheon. Nearly 300 people attended our first annual Summit at the Monona Terrace Convention Center on June 6. Recipients of the 2011 Workplace Diversity Awards were Kraft/Oscar Mayer and Culver's. Eric Pannell of the Madison Children's Museum received the Young Professional of the Year Award.   • Annual Report. We issued our annual report for FY2010 and filed our Form 990 for FY2010 with the IRS. You can download a copy of our annual report by clicking here.

RETURN ON YOUR INVESTMENT 

 

Highlight: Foundations Training Program

  • Investment: $695 per trainee for a five-week session
  • Social Return: Your investment helps those who have had difficulty finding employment restore their confidence and develop job skills that make them more competitive for employment opportunities. You also help ensure children have parents who can provide for them and that Greater Madison realizes an increase in the number of citizens who are contributing to the common good.
  • Economic Return: At an average salary of $22,880 annually, your support puts the average Foundations graduate in position to contribute up to $4,919 in state and federal income taxes and produce an additional $17,000 in economic activity (housing, food, transportation, entertainment, utilities and other goods and services).
