"When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us."

Ever Wonder About That Giant Shell?

"The Shell" Photo courtesy of the artist, Malcolm Robertson
The Shell
Standing 12 feet, 6 inches high and weighing about a ton, "The Shell" welcomes visitors to Englewood Beach on Manasota Key.  Florida's state shell, the horse conch, is beautifully represented in this modern steel rendering.

Sculptor Malcolm Robertson completed a residency at the Hermitage Artist Retreat on Manasota Key and came to the attention of local community leaders, who commissioned the work in 2005.  He operates from his studios in Glasgow, Scotland and Sarasota, Florida.

On his website, Robertson says his work is "conceived from an holistic point of view, created in response to people & places, is eclectic in character and seeks to be sympathetic in scale & context."

As you come upon this dramatic and unique work of art, you can't help but hear the call of the sea!

Our Beautiful Beaches: Stump Pass
Englewood Beach
In each issue of the Manasota News, we will talk about one of our beautiful beaches.  This month we are featuring Stump Pass.

A mile of beach stretches into a point where the Stump Pass flows into the Gulf of Mexico.  This is a place where one can find beautiful specimens of shells while watching the dolphins at play.

Stump Pass Beach State Park is located in Charlotte County at the southern end of Manasota Key.  The park is open from 8am till sunset 365 days a year.  There is a hiking trail and there are picnic tables.  The parking is very limited, so get there early.

Stump Pass is a beautiful, uncrowded place that invites surf casting, shell picking, sun bathing and snorkeling.  It is an unspoiled, natural environment that is home to a variety of wildlife, including gopher tortoises, egrets, and loggerhead turtles.  The waters here are some of the clearest you will ever see.

For more information visit the Stump Pass State Park website.
Fishing the Key

Surf CastingThe unique aspect to fishing on Manasota Key is that from here you can fish inshore, nearshore or offshore.  The Intracoastal Waterway flows through Lemon Bay, providing easy access to the Gulf of Mexico and to the many unique natural environments.  Mangroves and shallows provide excellent inshore fishing of redfish, snapper, snook and jacks.

Off shore are the famous tarpon.  A short boat trip to Boca Grande Pass brings you to one of the most famous tarpon fishing areas in the world.  Pampano, bonita, sheepshead and flounder are among the many species that can be caught in these waters... many even from shore!

For more information visit the Florida Fish & Wildlife website.
Thinking About Renting Your Home or Condo?

Wow, we were busy this season!  Most of our properties were completely booked for the 2010 season.  In fact, this was our best rental season on record! Due to the increased demand, WE NEED MORE RENTALS!

Because of our extensive client base of repeat seasonal renters, plus the numerous walk-ins we receive daily due to our location, we continue to receive many vacation rental inquiries.

We especially need rentals on water and/or pet-friendly properties. We turn away many, many potential renters every year that are looking for waterfront and a place they can bring their dog or cat.

Please call Jean or Rebekah to discuss our rental program: 941-474-3100.
