OIG Receives Grant for Background Checks! |
FBI Fingerprint Checks on Prospective LTC Employees
On June 22, 2011, Governor Beshear issued a press release announcing the Office of Inspector General (OIG) received grant funding to establish a comprehensive, statewide system to provide for FBI fingerprint checks on prospective employees of long-term care facilities. Currently employees are required by state law to undergo in-state criminal record checks at the time of initial employment. After implementation of the Background Check grant program, livescan equipment and additional resources will improve facilities' employment screening process and enhance Kentucky's ability to ensure the safety of nursing home residents. This will be accomplished by subjecting direct care employees to national criminal history checks in addition to the already required in-state criminal record checks.
