Welcome to Huckleberry Resources

Greetings!

I have heard from many people that the economy is starting to move again and that if you have made it this far, you are now seeing orders come in or hearing the phone ring.

Can your customers find you when they are ready to buy? In this issue I review my recent blog post to give you tips on updating online listings. Sites like Google Maps, Yelp, City Search are all free and every business should have a listing on as many sites as possible. Read more below...

As always, I hope you find this issue entertaining and informational. Your comments and questions are always appreciated and please pass it along to family and friends.

Best wishes!

Update your Google Maps Listing
It's FREE!
Long gone are the days of the old phone book. Now everyone uses the computer to find businesses and you will want to make sure that you can be found on Google by updating or creating a Maps listing. Its FREE and easy - it might take you 15 minutes.

You will need a google log in user name and password to do this and be near your business telephone.

There are two ways to add/update your listing:
Google Local Business Center at http://www.google.com/local/add

OR

Go to http://maps.google.com/
Search your business name and address
Click on "more info"
Click on "business owner?"

Follow the instructions to complete your listing. Make sure that you are next to the phone you have listed for your business as it will call you to verify the listing. It works very fast and as soon as you click go, it will call! Don't worry about an address for your business if you don't have one or prefer not to list your home (like me), use a PO Box either from the Postal Service or one of the UPS/FedEx type mailing stores.

You will be able to get statistics and tracking on how many people are seeing your listing when you log in to the Google Local Business Center. They report on keyword search terms, traffic to your listing, clicks, etc. You can also add a coupon, photos, logos and more.

After you have updated your listing, have your customers give you a Google review!

FREE online directories
List your business
Many people are turning to website directories like CitySearch and Yelp to find products and services to meet their needs. Most of these directories are free for you to add and keep your listing up to date. Many provide picture and video uploading, business hours and categories for you to use so that it is not just a name, address and phone number.

Here are a few sites to get you started:
Yelp
CitySearch
Yahoo
Google
Superpages (Yellowpages)
Business Journal Directories
Insider Pages

Remember! Many of these listing services including Google don't require an address or you can use a PO Box. The exception that I have found is Yahoo Local Business.

Again, once you have added your listing you can direct your customers to write reviews and rate your business.

What's New?

I hate public speaking! OK, so its not new but I have found Toastmasters very helpful in slaying the fear of public speaking. Well, maybe not slaying but severely injuring!

If you have a fear of speaking to a group Toastmasters is a fun and safe environment to practice getting up in front of people.

You can find a chapter that fits your schedule and is close to your home or work at http://toastmasters.org/.
