Welcome to Huckleberry Resources

Greetings!

I received more email responses to my first newsletter than any other email ever! Thank you everyone!

The results are in on the picture on the right! Although I didn't take an official tally of the votes, there were a few "yes your photo is dorky" but an overwhelming "no it's not"!

As always, I hope you find this issue entertaining and informational. Your comments and questions are always appreciated and please pass it along to family and friends.

Best wishes!

Get better Google search results!

Most folks don't have a clue when you say SEO - which stands for Search Engine Optimization. What the heck is that? Well, I guess I am here to tell ya...

So, Google, you know that thing we all use to find businesses and information and stuff has this really complicated system that it uses to categorize websites (they call it an algorithm) and put them in a priority list. This is what you get when you search something. The results at the very top of the page and down the right side usually called "sponsored links" are advertisements that are pay per click - you click, they pay. The rest are what's called organic results, what comes up with the fancy algorithm.

SEO comes into play when you want to make your website the  best possible for those organic search results. Here are a couple of tips:
  • Don't make your website in all flash
  • Use text copy with descriptive keywords for your product/service
  • Make sure that your Title Tags and Page Names use keywords
  • Use keywords when choosing a URL
  • Have links from outside sites to your site
  • Have links inside your site to outside sites
  • Be cautious if someone guarantees placement for your website!
Don't know what all that means or wha? Give me a call!

Are you overwhelmed?GrindHouse Coffee
Establishing Timelines
One year ago, my friend Amanda opened a coffee shop. We were talking about how it was coming together a few months before she opened and she indicated that she was feeling overwhelmed.

Do you ever have so much to do that you don't even know where to start? She had a classic case of fear paralysis so I invited her over to see if we could release her from the grips of her condition.

We talked about all the things that she had to do and we started making a list. We got out a calendar and set a date for her to open her coffee shop, making sure that it was reasonable and had plenty of time for her contractor to finish. It was then a simple matter of working backwards. When did she need to have the equipment installed? When did she need to have her supplies ordered? When did she need to have a phone line put in? We set target dates for everything. Today, her shop is successful - way to go Amanda!

How can you apply this to your life? It seems simple and obvious, but it really helps! The key is to do this for any project to keep you from feeling overwhelmed in the first place!
